Throw Kindness Like Confetti!
"Kind hearts are the gardens,
Kind thoughts are the roots,
Kind words are the flowers,
Kind deeds are the fruits.
Take care of your garden
And keep out the weeds,
Fill it with sunshine
Kind words and kind deeds."
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Never forget:
You make a difference!
You matter!
Your students need you!

Costco Tutoring Program
One of business partners, Costco, has selected Hearne as a recipient of their Reading Tutor program. The focus will be on phonemes, phonics, and comprehension. Volunteers will be on campus 1 hour a week for 15 weeks. We will be selecting Tier 2 students in 1st grade using iStation. You will be notified soon if your student(s) will be participating in this wonderful partnership to help us support foundational literacy.
Our program coordinator is Ms. Thomas!

Just a reminder! Students are tardy at 7:55 AM. Please encourage all your students to come to school on time every day!
Reminders for all staff--
- All staff should be at work on time every day.
- Welcome students at your doorways at 7:40 AM daily.
- Plan ahead to ensure you arrive to campus before your scheduled duty begins.
- The expectation is for all staff to use it daily to sign in and sign out.
- If the Raptor system is down, we will do a manual sign in sheet where you will record your time in and out.
- You cannot Raptor in and be at your assigned duty at the same time. Campus safety is everyone's responsibility. It takes the effort from all players for our team to succeed.
Our TEA School Report Card has been released!
The school report card (SRC) combines accountability ratings, data from the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), and financial information to give a broad view of campus performance. Available for each campus in Texas, the SRC is intended specifically to inform parents and guardians about a school’s individual characteristics and its academic performance.
Your team leaders will share how our local accountability system combines with our state accountability ratings to show our community and parents the power of our strides to close the achievement gap.

Student Data Folders First Update s by Friday, February 8th!
Goal setting is a powerful concept, particularly for students in our building.
"Without concrete goals to aim for, students are essentially reduced to nothing but wanderers."
We will define what our expectations are for achieving academic success at Hearne!
Data Folders will be maintained from January to January so it moves across grade levels. These folders will be maintained by all K-4 students and monitored by teachers. Our goal with this is to track iStation, iReady, and assessment data for all students. Teachers can use this as a tool for goal setting with students, student conferences about progress, campus data conversations, parent conferences, and our upcoming data/content night this Spring semester.
The logistics:
Each grade level will receive a different color folder and a matching color milk crate for storage in the classroom. Handouts will be printed this week.
The data folders will be updated as you deem necessary (every grade has various tests) but the campus will allow time the last day of each month for the last 25 minutes of the day. The crate will move to the next year’s teacher at the end of the year when classes are created.
The Family U Conference is Fast Approaching!
The Family and Community Engagement Program is excited to announce our ninth annual Alief Family U Conference scheduled for Saturday, March 23 from 7:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Hastings Ninth Grade Center. This exciting day includes engaging sessions in English and Spanish for parents, staff, children, and preteens. Enjoy student performances, comments from our Superintendent and Alief School Board, food, prizes, and childcare. The day will conclude with our keynote speaker, Sue Ellen Alpizar – Freedom Writer.
Staff can sign up to attend the conference and earn 7 hours of professional development. Please share the link below with your campus staff. Click here to register through Eduphoria:
https://www.schoolobjects.com/wshop/default.aspx?cid=14455
A STEM focused preteen track for students in grades 5-8 will be offered. As in the past, sessions for children in grades Pre-K – 4 will also be offered. All parents of students will need to remain on site and attend the full conference. Childcare is provided for families of Alief only. As with all other professional development, childcare is not provided for staff, allowing adequate space for children of Alief families.
Our 2018-2019 Campus Goal
35% of our LEP 3rd and 4th grade students will score at a meets level and 15% of our 3rd and 4th graders will score at a masters level on STAAR tests through the use of language building strategies.
