The Host

By Stephenie Meyer

Plot/ Scheme

The books opening was very interesting and for sure got me intrigued by the first few chapters being about an alien parasite (named the Wanderer) that invades the body and captures the memories of the host (the human). The climax of the book was when Melanie decides to die in the body she has because she does not have full control. This is then solved by Wanda making Doc take her out of Mel's body and her having her own body back. Therefore the internal conflict was solved.

Favorite Part and Favorite Character

My personal favorite part was when Mel escaped the caves to get medicine for Jamie. My favorite character was most likely be Jared Howe because is quite charming and of course him and Mel are perfect for each other. He creates the essence of romance that makes the book even more interesting.

Theme

“It's not the face, but the expressions on it. It's not the voice, but what you say. It's not how you look in that body, but the thing you do with it. You are beautiful.”
Stephenie Meyer, The Host

This quote shows the irony involved in the book and sums up a good message throughout the book.

“Even if we all want you here, you don't belong until you decide you do.”
Stephenie Meyer, The Host

This quote can be taken several ways but plays a big role in for Mel giving up her body.(which is a high point in the book.) It can also relate to every day expectance in our society and finding a place to belong.
