As noted above in the calendar items, the new dates for the school Christmas services are December 13th @7pm for the Soest service and December 20th @ 7pm for the Flatrock service. We encourage you to come to both and celebrate the good news of the birth of our savior Jesus Christ as told by our school children.

2nd Quarter Chapel Offering Projects

Our 2nd quarter chapel offerings are our annual food and toy drive. Both began in November. The food will be going to St Mark's Lutheran Food Bank in Monroveille and St Joe Hessen Cassell's food bank. To date we have almost $700 in chapel offering to split with both food banks to fill their shelves. All of the December offerings will be added to that. Thank you for your generosity!

The Toys for Tots drive continues until Friday Dec. 8th. The boxes at both campuses are starting to fill up, which is very exciting! Keep them coming.

Thank you to all of our SJE families that help us be Jesus' hands and feet in our community.

SJE Open House Coming

It is hard to imagine thinking about next school year already. The last couple of years we have not participated in the January Open House. This year we are going to try it again. The SJE Open House will be Sunday January 21st from noon to 3pm at the Soest campus. All grades will be in one building. You will have an opportunity to talk to teachers and tour preschool through 3rd grade classrooms. Mark the date on your calendar and tell your friends who may be looking for a school for their child(ren). Look forward to seeing you there.

"School to School" Project

SJE has chosen to adopt Memorial Lutheran School in Houston Texas as part of the LCMS School to School project. This has significance as this is the school our 5th grade teacher Mrs. Muehl's daughter teaches at. Look for a special offering project at the end of January for National Lutheran Schools Week.

SGO Credits Almost Gone for 2017!

This year our SGO donations are off to a great start! The school's need this year is about $18,000, of which we already have over $12,000. We have over 30 students who benefit from this scholarship annually.

If you do not know what an SGO is, it is a scholarship fund solely dependent on individuals, businesses and farmers who donate to the fund and direct it to the school(s) of their choice. Donors receive a 50% Indiana state income tax credit and if the donation is larger than your tax in a given year, you can roll it over for up to 9 years. This year the tax credits were increased from $9 million to $12.5 million. Last year the money was gone before the end of the calendar year and considering the pace it started at this year, it is likely to be gone even sooner.

There are so many way to give. Make sure you take advantage of your opportunity to receive not only a tax credit but a great feeling that your gift helps students continue to receive a Christian education.

Please tell others about this great opportunity and consider giving yourself. Go to www.lutheransgo,org to find out more and donate to SJE.

SJE Endowment

The SJE endowment fund has been around for some time. It is finally at a point that the school can begin using it. That means more now than ever before. contributions made to this fund, make a difference. Also, at the beginning of this school year, the Lutheran Foundation ties grant funds the school receives to donations made to our endowment. In other words, every dollar donated to the SJE endowment is, one, matched into our endowment and, second is a dollar available for the school via the day school grant. In the past that amount has averaged $23,000 each school year. The funds were used for technology upgrades as well as any other classroom or school needs.

This grant, and the endowment fund have become very valuable to the school. So, please consider giving to our endowment fund so that the school has money to apply for to be used in an upcoming school year and long term from our endowment fund. If you have any questions about the endowment, please contact Axel Gruen in the school office at 260-639-0123 or email to
