Internet Saftey
Why does this matter to students?
Why is the internet unsafe?
The internet is a great tool that can be used to communicate and learn. You can do research, watch videos, and learn about places that are far away. But, not everyone uses the internet for good things. There are a few rules to keep you safe while you are on the internet.
Tell an adult!
If someone asks you for personal information, like your birthday or password, tell an adult! If someone on the internet does something that makes you feel uncomfortable, tell an adult!
Be careful!
People on the Internet may not be who they seem! It is very easy to create a fake name, age, address, and any other personal details on an internet account. Be cautious of people you meet online.
Show your parents!
Show your parents you favorite websites. If someone sends you something scary or inappropriate, show your parents.
Laws to protect you:
In the United States, people must ask your parents before they collect information about you. If they want to know your name, address, phone number, or Social Security Number, they must ask your parents first. (kidshealth.org) This is called the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
