YouScience
Carroll Senior High and Carroll High School are dedicated to helping all of our students reach their highest potential and watching them succeed after their high school years and beyond. The challenge lies in discovering each student’s unique set of talents and understanding how those talents will drive college major, career, and even life choices.
That’s why we’re excited to share with you that Carroll SH and CHS have recently partnered with YouScience, creator of the innovative new program called the YouScience Profile. Learn more about how the program works and watch video demonstrations at https://www.youscience.com/.
YouScience is an exciting new tool for us and is being offered directly to our families for the first time. With this program, students will discover their unique set of talents through the revolutionary intersection of aptitudes, interests, and personality. It’s a completely new way to understand where your children will succeed and allows Carroll SH and CHS to deliver even more effective and accurate guidance.
If you're interested in this program for your student, please contact the guidance office at CHS (for 9th and 10th graders) or CSH (for 11th and 12th graders) for details. Please note, that this assessment can only be taken once in CISD.

Game Over
Dear Dragon Parents,
May 23 and 24 this year we are presenting “Game Over”. Game Over is a mock vehicle crash followed by an assembly to raise awareness about Intoxicated and Distracted Driving among teens. We will have a guest speaker who has been deeply affected by Drunk Driving and will present a very touching account of her experience.
I have been planning the presentation since September 2017 and there are many moving parts and we rely upon student volunteers. Our students will be participating in the acting portion of the presentation as well as portraying victims of Intoxicated and Distracted Driving. Our student Council has prepared a very impactful script and the Journalism students are gathering footage. The presentation is sponsored by Baylor, Scott & White Hospital in Grapevine.
We will have on site; CareFlite, Southlake Fire and EMS, Southlake Police, and B&B Wrecker whom will provide wrecked cars for the mock crash.
In addition to the information above, I would like to request 20-25 students to participate on May 23. These students will be our “Walking Dead” and will be taken out of class briefly to have makeup applied to their faces to represent their death. They will then go back to class and throughout the day, will not be allowed to speak to anyone. This is to reinforce that this student is no longer there, metaphorically.
A student will be taken out of class every 15 minutes to represent the frequency that a teen is killed by a Drunk or Distracted driver. Each time, a Police Chaplain, Police Officer, and the Grim Reaper will enter a class room and read an obituary prepared by the parents, then remove the student from class.
I am a parent myself and I realize this is a lot to ask of a parent. Even preparing a fake obituary can be emotional but this is a big impact on the student body as well as the faculty.
I am looking for our students and our parents, who are willing to participate, please contact me by May 8th to let me know if you want to participate. I have an obituary template I will email you so the workload on that is not too overwhelming.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart in advance and thank you for taking the time to read this.
I can be reached at david.tatsak@southlakecarroll.edu or 817-949-5603.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Officer David Tatsak

Nurses Note
As a reminder, students are not allowed to carry medications (over-the-counter or prescription). You may keep medications in the nurse's office for daily or as needed administration. Please be sure medicine is in original container, not expired, and has a signed Medication Administration Request or MAR. Prescriptions also require a doctor signature. Below is a link to access the MAR form. Inhalers, epipens, and diabetic supplies are the only exceptions to the carry policy, but the student does have to turn in the MAR and documentation from the doctor saying it is OK to carry. It is best if these medications are labeled, too. Also, the nurse is unable to dispense medicine, even Advil or Tylenol, unless it the student's own medicine brought in specifically for them. Here is the link for health services-

CSHS and CHS are closed campuses and students may not leave campus during lunch.
Item Drop Off
There is a table at the front entrance of CHS where students can collect all items dropped off by parents. Please make sure any item dropped off is labeled with their name and your student knows to collect them. Please note that your student may not leave the building to collect items from your vehicle, these must be brought into the building and dropped off.
Attendance
Arrival
9th & 10th Grade students must enter classrooms by 8:00 am when classes start. All students must sign in at the attendance office if they arrive at 8:01 am or after.
Departure
9th Grade students. Parent/guardians of 9th graders must physically sign their student out at the attendance office for early dismissal. If someone other than a parent/guardian is picking up a student, that person must be listed on the family's emergency contact list located in Family Access. Parents/guardians must contact the attendance office if a person - not on their emergency contact list - is picking up their child. The office is required to make a copy of that person's driver's license in order for the student to be released and that person needs to sign the student out.
10th Grade. As we know, many of our 10th graders drive, therefore they are permitted to sign-out with the attendance office for an early dismissal provided parents/guardians have notified the attendance office in writing. The note from parents requesting an early dismissal must be dated/signed and dropped off at the attendance office first thing in the morning. We will then provide the student with a pass to return to the attendance office at the early dismissal time to sign-out and exit the campus. If your 10th grader is returning that day, please ensure they sign in at the attendance office upon return so their attendance record will be noted properly.
FYI, For our students’ safety, it is important that they sign in when arriving late or sign out when leaving early. Students who do not comply with this safety measure will be referred to the Assistant Principal’s office per the CHS Handbook.
