Bulldog Bulletin- Weekly eNews
Here is what's on top at Buena Vista! 9/1/21
Note from the Principal
I hope you are all well I can't believe we are getting ready to finish up our 4th week of school already. Over the last few weeks I have been able to go into every classroom and meet my Bulldog Students by sharing a little bit about myself and my family along with some of my favorite things (swimming, hiking, baking and reading). I have even been able to read a story to every class...this has been my favorite time with your children so far! I feel strongly about making connections in order to support student growth and learning and I know that it begins with me. I am looking forward to more opportunities to work closely with your children as the year progresses.
Considering we have had quite a bit of "new" at Buena Vista we have had a relatively smooth start. This can be contributed to you! I want to thank all of you for following Our District's health and safety protocols, your honesty and diligence help support keeping our school safe and open.
There have been some questions about absences and having your student cleared to come back to school, so I would like to clear them up here:
If your child has ANY of the following symptoms, you should stay home. You child can return to school once they no longer display symptoms for at least 24 hours AND they have a negative COVID-19 test administered by a healthcare professional.
Fever (100.4˚F or 38˚C or higher) or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY CHILD’S SCHOOL?
If your student has any of the symptoms identified above, call the attendance office.
If your child has been diagnosed by a healthcare provider with a different illness, such as strep, tell our attendance office.
If your student has tested positive for COVID-19, let the attendance office know as soon as possible so that we may conduct contact tracing.
If your child is missing school due to illness and waiting for a negative COVID-19 results from a health care facility, please reach out to their classroom teacher regarding make-up work.
Please read this whole eNewsletter to make sure you are receiving all of the important happenings at Buena Vista!
Kind Regards,
Angela Gramlick
Principal

Quick Reminders!
- To support safety and masking we are not allowing food treats at school to share with the class. This includes both homemade and store bought food. If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday please connect with your child's teacher first. Consider donating your child's favorite book to the class and writing your child's name and adding their picture to the inside cover. If you feel strongly about sending in individual treats, please consider sending in pencils or bookmarks.
- All students should bring a filled water bottle to school daily. This is super important. Communal water fountains are currently shut off, students can fill up water bottles in their classrooms and at the hydration station in the MUR.
- Please remember there is absolutely no parking, stopping or leaving your car in the kindergarten circle during drop off and pick-up. This is staff parking only and only in designated spots. PLEASE DO NOT EXIT YOUR CAR IN THE KINDERGARTEN CIRCLE AT ANY TIME. If you want to exit your car, you should find legal parking on Buena Vista Avenue OR Park in Alvarado Parking Lot.
- If your child is out ill and awaiting a negative COVID-19 test, please reach out to your child's teacher for make-up work. Quarantine Independent Study (QIS) is only for students that are our on Covid-19 related quarantine for an extended period of time.
- Please remember to send your child to school with a face mask that fits well(a spare in the backpack is a great idea.) We always have extra to share, but often children prefer their own. Gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. It must be a mask with a "good fit" over the student's mouth and nose, we are happy to provide one of our disposable masks if needed.
- Please no students on campus prior to 7:55 am. We do not have any adult supervision on the playground until 15 minutes prior to the start of the school day.
- The Girl Scout year is kicking off and we’d love to have you join us! Come see what Girl Scouts at BV is all about! For more information, visit gsnorcal.org or contact Natalie (troop leader and BV mom) at 415-652-2416 or natmryan@yahoo.com
WCSD COVID-19 Back to School Information 2021-2022
WCSD has developed a COVID-19 Back to School Website where you can find answers to many of your questions. This week, you will find two new information items.
The WCSD COVID-19 Case Dashboard will be updated each day to reflect the most current information. We are committed to transparency with our community regarding cases.
The Student Close Contact Flowchart has also been added to the health page to help answer questions about how we will respond to reported cases and inform close contacts. If you are a close contact, we will work closely with Contra Costa Health Services to notify you as soon as possible.
This new graphic shares information about what to do if your child is in modified quarantine.
As a reminder, all WaLaMOrinda districts have partnered to offer community testing options Alison (updated link on Wed, 8/18/21 @12:30.) This updated version includes the links for all district locations to make it easier to schedule an appointment as well as expanded testing hours at TC.
We anticipate receiving ongoing updates from Contra Costa Health Services and will continue to update our website and communicate new information as it becomes available.
