Priority Open Enrollment 23-24

Open Enrollment is underway for the 2023– 2024 school year. Through Open Enrollment, your child has the opportunity to attend any school of their choice, if capacity permits. Initial open enrollment applications should be submitted by December 5, 2022.

If you have a child starting school next year (any grade) and have a sibling who currently attends our school on open enrollment, you should also apply by December 5, 2022. Priority will be given to siblings of currently enrolled students if grade level capacity permits. You must apply online at It is not necessary to reapply for Open Enrollment for currently enrolled students at Legend Springs, only new students wishing to attend.

For those of you with family, friends, or neighbors looking to attend LS next year, it is essential that you submit an application ASAP prior to the the closing of our priority window. In most grades, we typically have to waitlist the majority of students applying after December.

Families will be notified if the application has been approved or denied via email in January 2023. Upon notification, a registration must be completed online within 10 days of receiving the acceptance notification. Otherwise, the student potentially forfeits the approved Open Enrollment and will be removed from the waitlist, needing to reapply if still interested.

If you have any questions, please contact the front office at 623-376-4500.

Your PTO is happy to announce that we are hosting a family game night immediately following our meeting on September 28th. We hope to see you there!

This is a friendly reminder that before and after school the front loop lot is closed for visitors to enter due to BUS LOOP REQUIREMENTS and STUDENT SAFETY. Please use the regular student drop off loop from 8:30-8:45AM and 3:30-3:45PM. Note- sometimes we have a late bus due to driver shortages. If the lot remains closed outside of the listed time frame above, we are waiting for bus arrival and will re-open the lot once buses have arrived.

Thank you for your patience and adherence to these safety expectations.

Thank you to all the students and families who are donating to our Penny War! We have STEEP competition right now as students work to fill their grade level jars with pennies and bills....and fill other grade level jars with silver coins to "subtract" points. Last week 4th grade won the Penny War traveling trophy for top points of the week! This week our littlest PreK leopards earned the trophy. Who will be the traveling trophy recipients next week for most points?! Keep bringing in those coins to support our non-profit Soldier's Best Friend!

As a reminder, gates open at 8:30AM. School starts promptly at 8:45AM.

Also-- no students will be released after 3:15PM from the office. If you arrive to pick up your child early to avoid traffic lines you will have to wait until the Kinder release (3:20) or 1st-6th release (3:30) to get your child. This minimizes classroom disruptions and ensures students are completing their full day of learning.

How is LS supporting a Standards-Based Mindset?

Our school is aligned to the DVUSD Standards-based mindset, which helps guide our staff in tracking and reporting academic performance related to the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards.

Students are expected to complete daily practice assignments/homework to reinforce skills and concepts learned in class. In-process learning assignments will be factored into a student’s final grade, but will only count for 1% of the entire grade. Daily assignments are essential in developing the skills and knowledge in order to excel on the summative assessments. Assessments will be 99% of a student’s final grade. There will be no opportunities for extra credit. Grades take into consideration mastery of standards and skill development. All grades are supported by appropriate documentation (e.g., anecdotal notes, work samples, checklists, portfolios, rubrics, projects, tests, performance assessments, etc.). The grade a student receives on any assignment will reflect an accurate assessment of the student’s performance on the assessment. No individual test, performance assessment, assignment, or project should be more than 25% of the total grade.

It is absolutely imperative that students keep up with classwork, daily assignments and discussions in order to fully comprehend and grasp the material. These in-process learning assignments directly impact student performance on assessments. A standards-based mindset also embraces allowing students opportunities to show learning through reassessment when appropriate.

We will continue to provide updates and clarification throughout the year regarding these best-practices for grading and reporting on student learning. We are proud of the work our students, staff, and administration are doing to align definitions of mastery and essential standards across our district, leading the state in proficiency and growth for all students in DVUSD.
