Special Edition - COVID Screening Information
COVID Screening
What is asymptomatic screening?
Asymptomatic screening is the process of screening people for the presence of a communicable disease, in this case, COVID-19. The purpose is to assess the presence of COVID-19 in people who will share space together and who do not have reportable symptoms of the illness.
What type of asymptomatic screening is LBUSD doing?
LBUSD is conducting asymptomatic screening through the use of a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) anterior nasal swab. This requires a 15 second swab per nostril in the front of the nose with approximately a ½ to ¾ inch insertion of a Q-tip like swab. Please see the video that is provided below.
When will asymptomatic screening occur?
Kettering will follow a screening schedule that will include screening before school on Wednesdays (7:30am - 8:00am for parents who want to be included in helping the child screen), after the school day (on Monday's from 5:00 -6:00pm for parents who want to be included in helping the child screen), or during a break in the instructional day (with the support of Kettering staff).
Who will assist my child with screening?
Most children will be able to self-administer the anterior nasal swab with out assistance. The screening requires a 15 second swab at the front of each nostril. Parents who are present at the time of screening are able and encouraged to assist their child. School staff will also be available to assist children with screening on a regular schedule.
Are there any exemptions from screening?
Staff or students who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 90 days are exempt from any asymptomatic screening. A doctor’s note or positive test results should be provided to the school site to allow for an exemption to be recorded. A short form that is to be completed in the event that a family is seeking a Screening Exemption is linked here.
