Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures
If you need a color printed car to display in your dash, please let your child's teacher know and one will be sent home. This is a great visual for the adults who are helping your child into the car.
You may have noticed that we now have a yellow crosswalk at the south side of the parking lot/drop-off/pick-up circle. I'm going to ask that when you are walking up to drop- off or pick-up your child, please use this crosswalk. This not only allows the cars to flow through the line quickly, but it also ensures that your child and you are safe. Safety is our #1 priority during this time.
Thank you!
Title I Parent Night - September 19th, 6pm
Parents are welcome to attend the Annual Title I Parent Meeting on Monday, September 19th to be held at 6:00PM at Luce Road Elementary, just prior to the first PTO meeting of the year.
This meeting is to inform parents of the Title I requirements and your right to be involved in your child's education.
Some of the topics to be covered include:
• What is Title I?
• How does APS spend its Title I allocation?• How does Title I fit in with the District Improvement Plan?
• What are our curriculum and resources for each subject area?
• How are our students assessed to measure progress?
• What is our communication process with parents?
We hope to see you there!
Title 1 Services
Alma Public Schools receives Title I funds from the federal government. The purpose of these funds is to provide supplemental support for students who need assistance in order to meet grade-level requirements. We are a Title I Schoolwide program. This enables us to work with students as they demonstrate the need. Below are the supplemental services offered at Hillcrest Elementary:
Small group instruction and interventions are provided within the classroom by highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals.
A Title I teacher may provide lessons and/or small group supplemental instruction in the Title I classroom. This support is happening during structured intervention time each day.
Additional Reading differentiated instruction time is built into the day to provide instruction at students' learning levels.
Alma Elementary PTO
The Alma Elementary PTO is made up of parents and teachers who want to give students in the three Alma elementary schools the opportunity to participate in enriching experiences and to have the best material and equipment we can provide. Examples of PTO sponsored events include: field trips, assemblies, carnivals, concerts, science alive, reindeer visits, playground equipment, etc.
When parents get connected to the schools, children do better. In addition to the ideas and opinions that we love to hear, the children also benefit from parent volunteers who can donate a little time to make it happen. Please consider attending our monthly meetings and/or volunteering for a particular event when future messages are sent home or contact one of the representatives listed here.
To find out more about what the PTO is doing, please join us at our monthly meetings on the third Monday (usually) of each month at 6:30 pm. Free child care is always provided! The first meeting will be at Luce, the second one at Hillcrest, the third one at Pine and then the rotation begins again. The dates for the PTO meetings are the third Monday of each month unless there is no school on that Monday. If that is the case, then the meeting will be moved to the following Monday.
