Victor Early Childhood School

June 4, 2021

Dear Families,

As the end of year approaches, we are enjoying a few celebrations! Today was a particularly special day because we were able to greet the Victor High School senior class as they paraded past our school. One of my favorite moments of the year so far was watching our teachers jump up and down as they watched their former students march through the bus loop.

As I shared in a previous newsletter, our field days will occur during physical education classes this year and are spread out over the week of June 14th. The PE staff has been working hard to make this a memorable event! We are also working on plans for Flag Day, which will occur on June 14th. The students will be split into various groups to allow for social distancing as we celebrate our flag. Thanks to PE teachers Laura Davis, Jen Parks, and Blake Smith for their work on field days and thanks to our music teachers, Naomi Foley and Tayler Kochan, for working on Flag Day.

I also wanted to let families know that we are in the very early stages of a technology integration pilot program. We will soon install new interactive flat screens in four of our classrooms. Several classrooms already have interactive boards, but it is time for upgrades. We also have five teachers who are involved in a pilot program to utilize new Chrome books in their classrooms. The device:student ratio will be 1:2, meaning there will be one Chromebook for every two students. The students have been learning new programs (especiall RAZ Kids and Flipgrid), although many of our staff are already using these tools. We will begin next week by teaching the students some of the necessary routines and procedures for appropriate use of technology. The teachers have also been learning new instructional and management strategies, and they have toured neighboring districts to better understand how colleagues elsewhere manage the teaching and learning, given additional devices. The plan with this initiative is to increase the use of technology throughout the school over the next several years. I am so thankful for the work of these pilot teachers. The teachers for this current stage are Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Devito, Mrs. Sapp, Mrs. Scata, and Mrs. Searing-Post. Again, this initiative is destined to grow into next year and beyond. I'm thankful for the help of our district tehnology department as we have benefited greatly from their support and guidance with technology integration.

I hope our families are all enjoying the warmer weather. Let me know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

Monica Macaluso, EdD, Interim Principal
