Broad Street Parent Update
From Ms. Alexander - September 4, 2020
A Note from Ms. Alexander
I recognize our first graders have not had an opportunity to tour the building, so first grade teachers will be outside next week to meet students. Staff will be throughout the building to assist our second and third grade students with finding their classroom.
Enjoy the long weekend, thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you next week.

UPDATES to the Broad Street Phased Reopening Plan
Mask Expectations
One of the health and safety guidelines that has evolved over time is the wearing of masks. Currently, face masks are the standard face covering expectation for all students, staff and visitors. In the event you think your child should be considered for a mask exception, medical documentation should be shared with our nurse, Mrs. DeWitt or, if applicable, your child’s IEP or 504 case manager.
Technology Support
Technology support for students on remote learning days is available through your child’s school. For assistance with device troubleshooting or other technology questions, please call the Broad Street Office at 717-691-4574. Your call will either be directed to our Library Staff for immediate assistance or you will receive a call back as soon as possible. We are here to help!
Student Remote Day Expectations
The amount of time students will engage in activities on the remote learning days will vary by grade level. The academic expectations should grow for students as the year progresses as students will obtain skills in working away-from-school. as independent learners. Ultimately, a maximum approximate goal to consider would be an hour for ELA activities, an hour for Math activities and an hour for other activities.
Teachers will provide students with planned learning experiences that focus on extending learning from face-to-face time, previewing upcoming concepts, practicing skills, and assessing student learning. Students will engage with their teachers in the scheduled Wednesday synchronous class (or group) meeting. Also, teachers and students will meet for individual synchronous check-ins as scheduled by the teacher.
In addition to the planned learning experiences from their core content teachers, students will engage in any number of other activities (as assigned) including: activities from fine and applied arts teachers, group sessions with school counselors, lessons with
related service providers, special education support, additional reading intervention, ELD support, and Gifted enrichment.
New...New...New...Take Home Meals
Students can choose Take Home Meals for the days they are learning away from school.
For example: students attending in person on Monday, can pick up meals at the end of the day to take home for Tuesday & Wednesdays remote instruction days.
Your child can order the meals in the morning with their teacher, or you can reach out to your child's teacher to order.
- Meals will be charged based on students eligibility of free, reduced or paid meals
