Principal's Corner
Dear Kirk Families,
We are so excited for all the 2021 - 2022 school year has to bring and are ready to watch our Tigers continue to grow!
This year Kirk is embarking on a journey to bring out the leader in every Tiger - staff and students - as we shift our culture to be a Leader in Me school. Leader in Me is a process designed to help staff develop leadership skills in our students, help students discover their unique strengths, and infuse the language of the 7 habits of highly effective people into our lives which will also support the social/emotional needs of our students. Along the way, the adults in student lives will also benefit from infusing the 7 habits into their lives. As we begin this journey to give all of our Tigers the opportunity to shine and discover their leadership potential, we invite you to go on this journey with us by learning more about Leader in Me by visiting their website: https://www.leaderinme.org/what-is-leader-in-me/. We will share more information throughout the year as we roll out the 7 habits with students.
As we prepare to embark on the new year, CFISD is committed to LEADing safely. The district is currently updating the LEAD safely plan to meet the Governor’s orders as well as considering CDC recommendations. I can tell you that at Kirk we are just as committed to keeping all Tigers safe this year as we were last year. CFISD and Kirk are mask friendly. Staff and students are encouraged to wear masks indoors per the CDC recommendation and our custodial staff will continue to sanitize the building each evening. We request that our parents keep their child at home if they show any symptoms and have their child tested for COVID to help us keep everyone healthy. Students will continue to have time to wash their hands after recess before going to lunch and will have hand sanitizer stations in each classroom. We will also continue to social distance at the 3 feet distance recommended by the CDC whenever feasible. Due to the social distancing at lunch, the first marking period lunch will be students only. This will be re-evaluated at the end of the first marking period based on current conditions and CDC safety recommendations.
I would also love to have more feedback from YOU, our parents, who have a vested interest in Kirk. You can share your feedback by volunteering to be part of our Campus Performance Objective Committee (CPOC) which meets 4 times a year from 7:30am - 8:15am or share your thoughts on this google form https://forms.gle/b3o2eEcHByRsiG7z8. Your feedback will provide us with your insight and enable us to continue to grow to meet the needs of all our Tigers. If you are interested in serving on the CPOC committee as a parent, business representative, or community member please contact Katherine Isea (713-849-8250 or katherine.isea@cfisd.net).
In addition, we are also looking for parents to participate in the Superintendent’s Parent Leadership Committee. If you are interested in being part of this district committee representing the Kirk community, please contact Katherine Isea (713-849-8250 or katherine.isea@cfisd.net).
Finally, as we prepare to welcome all Tigers back to school on August 23rd, I wanted to share a few items. If you need to purchase school supplies, please click here for the list of needed supplies. You could also contact the PTO (kirkptopresident@gmail.com), if you want to see if they have extra school supply packs for your grade level. You should have received an email, if your child was enrolled last year, from Powerschool asking you to complete the annual student update. You should have received an email for each child. Please take a moment to complete this information and you will be receiving an email to complete the annual parent technology agreement. Both items must be completed before your child is able to meet their teacher on August 18. Completing these in advance will expedite the Meet the Teacher process.
Parent's Corner
2021 - 2022 Campus Performance Objective Council (CPOC)
Kirk is in need of 2 parents, 2 community members, and 2 business representatives to serve as members of our CPOC committee. The community member and business representative does not require you to have a current Kirk student but live in our community. This committee meets to review campus data and help set goals for student growth. We meet from 7:30am - 8:15am at Kirk four times a year. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please contact Katherine Isea at 713-849-8250.
2021 ‑ 2022 Superintendent’s Parent Leadership Committee (SPLC) Representative
If you would like to represent Kirk Elementary for the 2021 - 2022 Superintendent’s Parent Leadership Committee (SPLC), please contact Katherine Isea at 713-849-8250.
Parents will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Henry and other CFISD administrators at the SPLC meetings to discuss districtwide issues and acquire useful district and community information.
