Distance Learning Update #1
New Territory...
We recognize that there are still some things that are not ideal and will continue to work on these as we move forward. In these times, patience is key as this is the "first time" being part of a distance learning system for both teachers and students. In an effort to respond to some of the questions out there, most of this issue will be dedicated to answering some "Frequently Asked Questions." For more info on what's happening... read on.
Take care and stay healthy!
Question - When are we coming back?
Question - Why am I not seeing communications from the school?
- Only opted into "Emergency Announcements." Make sure to choose "General and Emergency Announcements."
- Communication modes all left unchecked. Please make sure to have some form of preferred communication selected.
- Old phone or email address. Please make sure your communication methods are up to date.
As a school, we are trying to limit messages as much as possible and only communicate essential information so as not to overload families with too much information that then causes essential information to be overlooked. Please help by ensuring you are setup to receive communications properly.
Question - What should the workload look like during Distance Learning?
- Students becoming primary care givers for siblings
- Students not having access to consistent Internet connections
- Students having to pick up additional work hours to support families
- Teachers having to home school their own children while maintaining their own classrooms
- Overall mental health of our students and teachers during this difficult time
With all these in mind, we feel it is best to limit the work as much as possible so as not to be an additional source of stress on families and children during this difficult time.
Question - How do I connect with my counselor?
The counseling team has put together a distance learning page that can be found at this link. Students should join their counselor’s Google Classroom to get daily tips and information as well as access to make virtual appointments to meet with their counselor. Our team has office hours each day to connect with and support students and they can also be reached via their email. Reach out and let us know how we can support you.
