Clipper Family Connection
Sturgeon Bay High School Newsletter
December 2023
From the Principal
Hello Sturgeon Bay High School Families,
By next week, we will be half way through the second quarter already! The year is flying by and we appreciate all your support and assistance with getting your children to school every day, on time. As a reminder, one of our focus areas is our daily attendance as we know students are more successful when they are in class every day, on time.
As you know, last month, our Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior students took the Pre-ACT. This was a great opportunity to practice the test before they take the Spring test. Our data should be coming back this week and we will be going through the results one on one with each student. We will then be sharing the results with families as well. Our goal and purpose is to help our students better understand the assessment and to work with them on any areas they may be struggling in.
In the coming months, we will be providing students with supports, interventions, and learning opportunities in areas that have been identified as areas for growth. Much of these supports will be during Clipper Time. Our goal is to consistently and intentionally support our students to be successful in college and career goals.
Please take a few moments to review the newsletter below to see all the great things happening at Sturgeon Bay High School.
All my best,
Keith Nerby
Principal

Girls Basketball:
The Girls Basketball Team has a new head coach with our own superintendent taking over the reins for the 2023/24 girls basketball program.
The new coaching staff features head coach Dan Tjernagel and returning varsity assistant and JV head coach Mark Felhofer. Carrie Tjernagel will be volunteering as an assistant coach with both teams.
The girls are learning a new system and have looked good during their first few games this season and one just last week! Looking forward to an exciting season for the girls during the 2023/24 season.
Boys Basketball
The team has a new head coach as well in Zach Goblisch. Coach Goblisch has put together a new coaching staff with Troy Hasenjager coaching the JV 1 team and Trent Bohn coaching the JV 2 team.
Chad Ulberg will be volunteering as the varsity assistant coach. Coach Goblisch will make no predictions on the success of this year's team, huge potential to capture a Packerland Conference title is definitely a team goal for this year's squad.
Wrestling Team
This is a Co-op team between Strugeon Bay and Sevastopol. Coach Trevor Hasenjager and Coach Jacobson are very optimistic for a very successful 2023/24 season with the hope of returning at least four team members to state this year.
Dance Team
The team is practicing and preparing to showcase their talents at our basketball season halftime shows on 12/12/23 and 1/12/24. The team coached by Jen Propsom and Nicole Herbst are looking forward to a state return to La Crosse in March.

Cell Phone Expectations
We understand that cell phones and similar items are a way of life for many students and families. We also need to help teach our students when it is appropriate and not to use these devices. We thank you in advance for your partnership as we work to help students focus on academics and learning in the classrooms.
