Second Quarter Grades
Last Friday, January 5th was the last day of the second quarter. Grades will be mailed home next week via USPS, and they will also be available in Parent Portals at that time. If you do not receive your child's grades by Friday, January 26th, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or call the front office.
Second Semester Clubs Registration
Registration for winter clubs is now open through your Infinite Campus Parent Portal School Store and will close on Friday, January 12th!
To register, log into your Parent Portal, choose School Store, then Shop, and finally Products. At this point, you can view information about each club, add to your cart, and check out by clicking Submit. Be sure to check the grade levels for each club before submitting to be sure your student is eligible for the chosen club.
Spots are limited, so please sign up as soon as possible! As clubs meet minimum enrollment, you will be charged the club fee in your Parent Portal and notified. If a club must be cancelled due to low enrollment, you will notified and given the opportunity to switch to another club. Students may not begin clubs unless the club fee is paid or a scholarship is confirmed. A few scholarships remain - complete this scholarship application to apply. Please note that a student must have both a registration through the Parent Portal AND a submitted scholarship form to have a confirmed scholarship spot in a club, as space allows.
Family Skate Party This Thursday!
Come join us for a family skate party at Skate City in Shawnee this Thursday, January 11th from 6-8 pm! The cost is just $7 per skater and $2 for each skate rental, and food is available for purchase from the concessions area. Skate City will donate a portion of each skater’s fees back to Citizens. This is a family event open to all CWC families, so please bring siblings and plan to stay at Skate City with your child(ren). See you there!
Broadway Construction
Note that Spire Gas Company is slowly working on a new gas line, affecting both Broadway and the sidewalk in front of our building. During this work, traffic lanes will be closed at times so be mindful when traveling around the building. We have been told that all Broadway parking will be closed through January 12th, possibly longer. We encourage all families to utilize the carpool dropoff/pickup line during this construction. Please email dismissalchanges@cwckansascity.org with changes to how students will be going home.
New Visitor Check-In System
As a result of a grant for enhanced school security, we will be using a new visitor check-in system beginning after winter break. Please be aware that if you are coming into the school for a meeting with a staff member, volunteering in a classroom, or are otherwise in the building during the school day, you will need to have your state-issued ID with you. Please check in at the front desk when you arrive at the building, where you will provide your ID and receive a visitor sticker. We're really excited about this added security measure to keep our students and staff safe, so thank you for helping us roll out this new system!
Volunteers and field trip chaperones still need to have the proper background screenings and checks. You can learn more about this process by visiting the link below.
Inclement Weather Policy
As stated in the Family Handbook, our inclement weather policy is:
When deciding to close school for inclement weather, CWC Kansas City will generally follow the lead of the Kansas City Public School District. However, CWC Kansas City reserves the right to still make our own decision.
When KCPS announces their decision, CWC Kansas City will announce and communicate our
decision as well. We will post on our website and Facebook page, report to ABC-CBS-NBC, and send email/texts to our staff and parents. We will use the most updated contact list, please ensure the school always has the correct email/phone number(s) on file.
Generally speaking, we will wait for the decision from KCPS before making a decision for CWC.
● If KCPS is closed and we follow suit, we will communicate as soon as we are aware of their
decision and confirm our own.
● If KCPS is closed and we will still stay open, we will communicate as soon as we are aware of their decision and confirm our own.
● If KCPS is on a delayed start schedule, we will communicate our open/close status as soon as we are aware of their decision and confirm our own.
● If KCPS is either open, or is very late to announce a closure, we may still decide to close
regardless, and we will communicate that decision as soon as we have made it.
These decisions are generally made outside of normal school hours; therefore, please do not call, email, or message the school or specific employees and expect an immediate response – we will communicate a decision utilizing all of the above methods as soon as the decision is made.
