Hanawalt Olympics from Mr. Van Loon
We have some fun activities planned for Field Day which includes water activities. I would suggest students bring a change of clothing for the day!
In addition, I am looking for parent volunteers to help with the day.

Kindergarten Registration 2022 -2023
Below is a list of students who can complete sign-up at Hanawalt. Anyone who does not fall into one of the categories listed below should be sent to the Welcome Center.
1. Younger siblings of students who currently attend Hanawalt and reside in our attendance area.
2.Younger siblings of students who currently attend Hanawalt who do not live in our attendance area but have a 22/23 WIDT or OE approval letter.
To sign-up at Hanawalt, please provide the student’s Birth Certificate, Immunizations, Parent ID and Proof of Residency.
After July 11, 2022, regardless of the situation, ALL new students including incoming siblings, will need to go to the Welcome Center.

Parents Night Out Success!
Thanks to everyone who helped make Parents Night Out a success. It was wonderful to see people in person with a great turnout. We also raised over $13,000 to support our school. Special appreciation for planning committee members!
Order Next Year’s School Supplies Now!
Again this year, we are offering families the opportunity to order school supply kits from SchoolKidz. Information will be sent home next week. We updated the list according to each grade's requests. Kits will be delivered to the school in August and available in each classroom for students who order them during Back to School Night. Visit shipttkits.com and look up Hanawalt account number 74029. Get ready for the inaugural Hanawalt Hawks Invitational Golf Fundraiser benefiting Hanawalt Elementary PTA!
Join us Friday, August 26th for our first annual Hanawalt Golf Fundraiser benefiting Hanawalt Elementary!
Four person scramble includes fees, cart, lunch and tee prizes. Check in is at 8:00 am with a 9:00 am shotgun start. $75.00 per golfer if you sign up by June 3rd (after that it increases to $100). Mulligans $5 each and raffle tickets available as well!

Opportunities in the Arts
Many Hanawalt students enjoyed their time with our artists last week! Thank you so much to the staff and parent volunteers that made it possible! If your child connected with an artist and wanted more time with them OR didn’t get to experience an artist, we gave the artists a chance to share their upcoming workshops and performances. Here is a list of some of our artists and their upcoming shows/workshops that they shared. Let’s support the artists that support our school!
Frank Strong: Performing music and teaching harmonica this coming Saturday evening at the First Unitarian Church near Fleur and Bell Avenues. The event will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022. This event is free. Please email Elaine to let her know you are coming: eretiredindm@gmail.com
Kathleen Roling: Teaching a Moss Art Class on Mother’s Day weekend. This event is appropriate for ages 7+ to do with a parent. More information at: https://www.kathleenjoy.com/events
Anthony San: Teaches breakdancing through his business, Des Moines Breakerz, LLC. You can find his classes at several community Parks and Rec, including West Des Moines and Ankeny. Follow Des Moines Breakerz on FB for more information on performances and classes throughout the summer.
