Malnutrition
Malnutrition is a condition which the body does not get sufficient or balanced amount of nutrients it needs to maintain healthy tissues and organ functions. It may results in death or long-term development problems in individuals. The cause of deaths are associate with diarrhea, pneumonia, malaria and measles.
Malnutrition also affects people in DCs. In 2006, thousands of elderly people in the USA die annually from lack of nutrients. However, people in LDs affected heavier than people in DCs.
Ill-health
ill-health is another consequence of inadequate food consumption. For example lack of calcium(dairy products, e.g. milk and cheese, vegetables) and vitamin D( obtained by sufficient exposure to sunlight) will cause osteoporosis. In 2006, the National Osteoporosis Society in UK estimated around 3 million people suffering from osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis- a condition in which bones become less dense and fragile. It's caused by diet without sufficient of calcium and vitamin D.
