Dear Parents, Friends and Students of the OLC Community
Welcome back to what looks to be an exciting term ahead with the easing of some restrictions in Phase 5 of the Road map, tentatively scheduled to come into effect shortly.
Even though this is a period of relative calm for all of us here in Western Australia in relation to COVID-19, it is important that all members of our community continue to remain vigilant in all areas including; our food preparation, school gatherings, hygiene and cleaning, observing safe physical distancing and for staff and students to stay home if they are unwell.
Given the rather concerning developments related to the spread of COVID-19 in Victoria and NSW, it will be important to keep an eye on how we are travelling and by staying on top of the above listed areas, we will be better placed in the event of a second wave in WA.
Once Phase 5 is confirmed, we will announce how we plan on moving forward with School Assemblies, Whole School Masses and functions. We thank you in advance for your patience and commitment in working together to ensure the safety of the students, staff, and parent community.
We know that mental health, well-being, an engaging curriculum, and a safe learning and work environment are relevant for all. I thank our staff for their commitment to our Whole School Well-Being focus.
We are all so fortunate to have not only each other, but also to have much to look forward to here at school. As we move into the third term, it is a source of great hope that our students continue to care for one another and with Jesus as their model, are compassionate and passionate about learning.
School Camp to Forest Edge Waroona
We are very fortunate that our dedicated staff are prepared to give up their own personal family time to provide many sensational experiences for the students in their care. Our staff spent the first week of this term at Forest Edge in Waroona with 76 year five and six students.
Sacramental Meeting
Many thanks to Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Ricciardone and Fr.Francis for co-ordinating the Confirmation Sacramental meeting on Tuesday evening in our school hall.

Y5/Y6 SCHOOL CAMP - WAROONA
Our OLC students were sensational in the way they behaved, took initiative, showed leadership, used their manners and generally showed a love for life and an exuberance for trying new things.
I would like to thank Mrs Ricciardone, Mrs Holt, Mrs Leahy and Mr Jones for their professionalism, fun and for the way they supported and encouraged our students.
Great thanks to Mr Frank Giglia for supporting the staff and providing great humour and assistance.
Congratulations to everyone.

CATHOLIC CORNER
Confirmation Parent and Child Night
Tuesday night saw our year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation candidates gather with their parents in the hall for a special preparatory workshop. This was an opportunity for families to reflect on the significance of the Sacrament and to broaden their understanding of the Holy Spirit. We thank Mrs. Riccardone, Father Francis and the parents who attended for helping to coordinate such an important step for the students as they continue on their Catholic faith journey.
Whole School Assemblies and Masses Postponed
With the Premier extending the time until we can implement Phase 5 Social Distancing requirements whole school gatherings are now back on hold until further notice. The whole school parish mass scheduled today took place in the hall, and only involved the Year 3 and Year 6 students, as they prepared to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and Confirmation respectively. They are collectively small enough in number to adhere to current social distancing requirements in the hall area. During this mass the Sacramental candidates, alongside their parents, made their Commitment to the preparation for the Sacrament. We would ask you to keep these students in your prayers at this special time.
Making Jesus Real
Despite being unable to gather as a school for assemblies, we continue to emphasise our desire to Make Jesus Real in our daily lives, and to recognise our students when they greet, treat and speak to others in the way that Jesus would. Congratulations to the first group of students identified as showing the Spirit of Jesus this term!

Adoration of the Holy Eucharist
There is an opportunity next Friday the 7th of August for families to participate in a special time of prayer in the church known as Eucharistic Adoration. The church is open for the day for people to come and pray and meditate in silence for a period of time of their choosing in the presence of Jesus (in the form of the Blessed Sacrament). I will be escorting a group of children to the church to participate in the Adoration on the day, but families would be most welcome to attend in their own time after school if they are able.
Amie Meyer, OLC Religious Education Coordinator.
