Here's What's Happening At Milan Elementary School!
February Students of the Month are "Caring" Students
The Milan Elementary School Student of the Month theme for February was “Caring” and focused on students who exhibited compassion for others and were thoughtful, helpful and sensitive to the needs of others.
Chosen as outstanding examples of this very desirable character trait were: Kindergarten: Mackenzie Hunter, Claire Burton, Daniel Hatfield, Brantley Lows, Braelyn Dew. First Grade: Kayden Steele, Joshua Caylor, Tianna Bushorn, Olivia Collins. Second Grade: Brianna Sams, Brooklyn Cox, Kyndell Furnish. Third Grade: Alex Phillips, Tayah Holdcraft, Jessi Bitter, Violet Thome. Fourth Grade: Ayden Herzner, Kaleb Wilburn, Brielle Bentley, Dylan Pindell. Fifth Grade: Makalee Rivera, Ayden Potts, Chloe Hunter.
The boys and girls received special pencils and certificates prepared for them by Mrs. Thelma Reese and presented by Mr. Ron Mills; both representing the Milan American Legion, sponsors of the program. They also had this group photo taken. Watch for it to appear in the local paper very soon!

Students Teaching and Learning From Each Other
Basketball Jones Returned to MES to Help US Bust That Test!
Milan Elementary students and staff are grateful to our wonderful, hard-working PTO for bringing Jim "Basketball" Jones back to our school for another visit on Friday, February 24. His programs are always very entertaining and motivating for our students and a great way to get boys and girls “fired up” to do their best work on the ISTEP+ test.
Mr. Jones is one of the country’s top basketball handlers and a highly demanded motivational speaker. He visits hundreds of schools each year to share his personal story of overcoming Dyslexia and how his mom fostered his self-confidence and pushed him to be his best. His highly animated, story-based talks focus on always doing your best and being the “best version of yourself that you can be.” His stories and stunts always delight students and his basketball-handling skills are amazing!
Thank you MES PTO!

Spring Music Programs Are Coming on April 18 and 20 Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2, and Show Choir Will Perform
Mark your calendars! Get those cameras ready! Call the grandparents! The Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students and our very own MES Show Choir will be performing in our annual Spring Music Programs coming up in April. Everyone is invited!
The Kindergarten and Show Choir start off the fun on Tuesday, April 18 with a 6:00 p.m. program with the Kindergartners singing songs to welcome Spring. The Show Choir follows at 7:00 p.m. sharing a variety of their favorite tunes.
The entertainment continues on Thursday, April 20 when the first and second graders present their programs at 6:00 p.m. for Grade 1 and 7:00 p.m. for Grade 2. Tonight's programs follow the theme of "making the world a better place" by offering hope, peace, love, kindness, and caring to all.
We hope you'll join us for one or both of these fun events. It's a wonderful opportunity for your child to perform in front of an audience and a great time for showing family and community support. See you there!

Don't Miss Our Kindergarten Registration On Thurs., April 6!
Milan Elementary will hold registration for students beginning Kindergarten in the fall on Thursday, April 6th. If you have a child who will be five by August 1, we urge you to contact the school at 654-2922 to set up an appointment.
This is also the date to register if you are interested in our Two-Year Readiness Kindergarten Program for children who will be 4 by August 1. Space for this class is limited and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
Please do not feel that you have to wait for a birth certificate and/or immunization record. You have until school starts to produce these documents. It is very important that we at least get your child registered and complete the screening process before August so we can order enough supplies and set up class rosters. Thanks!

The Mobile Dentist is coming on April 17. Return forms to the School Clinic by April 13 if you'd like your child to be seen!
Fifth Grade Parents......
An important part of preparing your child to make the move to the Middle School next year is making sure he or she meets the necessary immunization requirements.
Students entering grade six are required by State law to have an additional Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis) Vaccine and a Meningitis (Meningococcal) vaccine. Some students may have already had these or may not be old enough until after school starts. But, for those who are eligible and need the immunizations, we have partnered with Margaret Mary Health to provide them at an Immunization Clinic to be held here on April 28th. They will also be offering the HPV vaccine and the Hepatitis A vaccine if you are interested in those for your child.
Watch for more information and permission slips to come home soon.
Indiana State Law requires all students entering the sixth grade to have Tdap and Meningitis immunizations.
