EUREKA STOCKADE

The Eureka stockade happened on the 3rd of Dec 1854. The government were not happy about the miners mining for free. So they made the miners have a licence which cost them 30 shillings a month. The miners were not happy. So they fought against the government. They elected Peter Lalor as leader. The soldiers ambushed the Eureka stockade and killed 20 or so miners. Peter Lalor fled the scene with a amputated arm. The court dropped all charges against the involved miners including Peter Lalor.

CHALLENGES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Peter Lalor's challenges were that he had to gather all the miners in one area and speak to them and also he fled with an amputated arm! Bushrangers were also a huge problem for the miners some of the bushrangers were Captain Lightning, Frank Gardiner and Thunderbolt. The murderous Clarke brothers of the Clarke and Connell gang were considered to be worse than any other bushrangers of the times and became known as "The Bloodiest Bushrangers".

But his achievements were somewhat greater he found gold changed the governments mind and became one of Australia's all time heroes... or did he?
