YEARBOOK INFO
Hello Everyone!
Just to keep everyone informed, we are changing yearbook companies this year. We are going back to Lifetouch. Our new parent advisor is Vanessa Dyer. I am currently in the process of getting the paperwork organized to get the yearbook up and running! I will be attending a training in October and will keep everyone posted as to the changes.
If you have any pictures of the first day or days that can be included in the yearbook I would love if you can email them to me! Take your time as I know how busy everyone is!
Thanks so much!!
Tara

SEL/Restorative Practice's Corner
Sue Lyons found a fantastic article on SEL, Trauma, and equity. This goes right along with the Restorative Training that I have been attending this summer.
This excerpt from the article really hit home for me:
"A trauma-informed, SEL, cultural awareness model of supports allows (educators) to create a safe environment to address trauma and SEL skill build, while also tapping into the strengths and opportunities of students' culture.
In this way, prevention assets don't just build on each other, they multiply," says Dr. Gregory Leskin, Ph.D, Director at UCLA/Duke University National Center for Child Traumatic Stress.

Conscious Discipline
I'll occasionally post a few videos here from Conscious Discipline. The first video dealt with I Love You Rituals. It was a moving video about how making connections in school and in life will help to create "family".
This week I am posting a short video about another Conscious Discipline concept: SafeKeeper Promise. A teacher demonstrates this concept below. This practice seems to fit in nicely in our K-2 or even K-3 classrooms.

Nurse's Corner of important information
Welcome back!
RIDE and OSHA require all teachers to complete a Universal precaution (required), and Epi Pen (not required, but encouraged) training yearly. I will be reviewing both of these at our orientation.
For Universal Precautions:
Here is the training on RIDE where you can read through and print a certificate of completion. This is REQUIRED bloodborne pathogens training. Please sign the certificate of completion and turn it into me. I am required to keep a record of completion.

For Epi Pen:
Here is the link to the Epi Pen video, please cut and paste in your browser. It reviews sign and symptoms of anaphylaxis (life threatening allergy), and shows you how to administer an Epi Pen.

STAR TESTING INFORMATION FROM DON COWART
Please see the message below from Don Cowart.
STAR Testing is suspended for the time being, pending the fix of technical issues.
Aspen and STAR are just not getting along! They need to work in the area of SEL and PBIS :)
Thanks,
Dom
Hello,
We are having problems with STAR pulling data out of ASPEN. The rosters and class names are not updating. This will cause a lot of frustration during screening and even more problems running reports.
I will keep you updated of the progress and tell you when we are ready. Do not screen until then.
Thank you,
Don Cowart
