Updates Reopening- Phase 3 information, 11/20/2020
Please watch the video for important information
Dear parents and guardians,
As we prepare to bring back nearly 500 students to our new school building, it is critical to ensure that we continue to keep the students' and staff's health and safety as a priority. While changing the date of the reopening is not an easy decision, San Jose Schools feels that it is the prudent thing to do to ensure the safety of evryone who will be in the building at a time when COVID-19 cases are spiking.
When students return from Thanksgiving, there will be 11 instructional days and 3 exam days before they break again for the Winter Break. Therefore, we will finish these last 14 days virtually and hold our grand opening on Tuesday, January 5.
Phase 3 would be a full return to the brick and mortar classroom with all teachers and students returning to school under strict COVID guidelines. Families who wish to keep their students learning online may do so through the end of 1st semester.
At the end of the 1st semester, we will reassess the situation. Families need to be aware that any student who chooses to remain on virtual instruction for the 2nd semester will no longer have live, synchronous instruction. Virtual instruction at that point would be fully independent via Edgenuity and students would have to remain in that mode for the remainder of the school year, with the exception of state and national assessments which must be taken on the school campus.
We are working diligently to provide the safest environment for our students and staff as they return to school, as well as making all preparations for the opening of our new school building.
On behalf of the administration, faculty, and staff, I want to thank you for supporting us through this very difficult year and transition and for entrusting us with your children. We do not take that responsibility lightly and are grateful for the opportunity.
As we move forward, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or a member of my administrative staff and we will be happy to assist you.
I hope you and your families have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Knapp
Principal

A: Yes
Q: If my student is currently coming to San Jose Primary to do online instruction, will they be able to continue doing so in December?
A: Yes
Q: Will we have the option to remain virtual?
A: Students may remain on live, synchronous instruction through the remainder of the 2nd quarter. We will reassess at the end of the semester as to whether or not there will be virtual instruction 3rd quarter. Should we have virtual instruction 3rd quarter, it will not be live synchronous instruction- students must work independently and must remain on this format for the remainder of the year
Q: What COVID precautions will you be taking?
A: Students and staff on campus must have daily temperature checks to enter the building, facemasks are required, COVID waivers must be on file with the school, frequent hand washing and sanitizing is expected, and we will practice social distancing where possible. There will be hand sanitizer stations throughout the school and hand sanitizer and wipes in every classroom. Our cleaning service will also be disinfecting surfaces nightly.
Q: What happens if someone tests positive?
A: If a student or staff member tests positive, contact tracing will begin. The student/staff member must quarantine for 14 days prior to returning to school. All schoolwork will be provided.
Q: What if someone else in the home tests positive?
A: If a sibling, parent, or someone else in the home tests positive, the student must quarantine for 14 days. School work will be provided
Q: What if my student develops symptoms throughout the school day?
A: If a student develops symptoms during the school day, a parent will be called to pick up the student. A negative COVID test result will be required to return to school. As always, students who develop fevers must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Please know that your health and safety is important to us and we will be doing everything we can to keep everyone healthy and safe.
