Selby Week Ahead
March 2 -5, 2020
News and Notes
One of the things I have been thinking about is how we can create the conditions for students to love math (and reading and writing!). I thought doing some math questions as a school could be fun. You might have noticed a math board with a question - just outside the office. This is for everyone and I encourage classes to tackle these questions as part of a number talk or come down and do a mini-lesson in the hall. I can't wait to see what they come up with. I will change the question when we have had enough of this one.
with.
I would also like to schedule a whole-school writing burst/quick write the last week before March break (I am thinking Tues. March 10 @ 11:45). If these are not a part of your practice - give it a google. For our time together, I will give the students a writing prompt before they write. Our time will be quite short (~5 min) so that it isn't too long for our younger friends. Students are welcome to bring white-boards, writing notebooks or just paper. Staff are encouraged to write as well. Afterward, students will have 2-3 minutes to edit and then to share with someone close by. I encourage you to give this strategy a try if you haven't already.
Thank you to those that teachers Sara S and I have been able to meet with about student progress. There are a few of you that we will still try to connect
If any teaching staff will be off next year in any capacity (leave, X/Y, retirement etc) please let me know ASAP so I can inform HR.
Have an awesome week!
