Researching
We have become researchers in our class! Each student picked a topic he/she is interested in and wants to know more about. Then, we developed questions we wanted to know about our topic and learned ways to organize information. We are using books and the internet to research these these questions.
This is a huge task for 6 & 7 year olds! I am so proud of the kids for persevering and really working to find information. With that being said, we still have a lot of work to do to get our information. If you are able at home the next few days, could you please help your child research their topic? If so, I will send home their research folders. One great resource that is developmentally approriate is SC Discus, a virtual library. Here is the login information:

Daddy/Daughter Dance
Our Student Council will be having the 2nd Annual Daddy/Daughter Dance on Friday, February 7th in the cafeteria.
Tickets for the Daddy/Daughter Dance will go on sale next Monday, January 13 and will remain on sale until January 16. Tickets can be bought before school (7:10-7:40) outside of the cafeteria. Money cannot be accepted at any other times.

1st Grade Musical - Cover Your Sneeze, Please
First Graders will participate in a musical on February 4, 2014 at 9:15am in our cafeteria. Students should wear jeans, sneakers, and a blue shirt. Please try to join us for this musical play!
What We Are Learning
- Reading Workshop- Interacting with texts, connecting with characters
- Writing Workshop- where to find information to include in informational text, researching information, writing non-fiction books
- Math Workshop- sorting a collection, graphing
