The Holidays are right around the corner...

It is hard to believe that next week is our last week before Holiday Break. If your family will be leaving town early please let me know. Please also remember for the safety of all children we ask that the children do not leave after our Holiday Party. Volunteer Schedule

I sent home the January volunteer calendar earlier this last week. If you would like to be added to our monthly volunteer calendar please let me know. The kids love to have you visit us and play games. If you are on our schedule and need to change the days please also let me know and I will change that as well.

Hour of coding

We enjoyed an hour of coding on Wednesday. The kids all had a chance to use the school Ipads to visit different apps to experiment with coding. A few of the apps that the kids used this week were Kodable, Daisy the Dinosaur, and Light Bot. I am sure a few of your students have told you all about it, as they had a wonderful time!! We had the pleasure of having a few 4th grade friends from Mrs. Clark's class come down and help us during this time.

Hour of Coding video for TCE

Thanks to Mrs. Gibson for creating this wonderful video that we can share out to show how awesome Hour of Coding has been for the kids. She took just a few shots from the pictures that were submitted to her. She wishes she could have included them all, but needed to keep the video short. Enjoy, it is a great video!

Indiana Hoosier Book Award

We had the pleasure of having Mrs. Johnston come in and read to us this week. Our goal is to read or listen to all 12 of the books that are up for the Indiana Hoosier book award. As we read we are also talking about the characters, setting, problem, and solution in these stories.

It is that time of year...

We are very excited in our room for the holidays as they near. Please help me by reminding your child that we still need to focus in class and remember to show our TCE High 5 behavior. Thank you! I have helped this situation by changing seats around in the room just this week. Thank you for all of your support at home, it truly does help.

TCE's Buddy Bench Project

Please check your child's folder for a flyer about TCE's new Buddy Bench Project. We will be collecting plastic caps and lids throughout the year to be recycled into Buddy Benches for the playground. Please feel free to send in any items you may have as often as needed.

Just a reminder

If you have not turned in the money for the parties from our room mom's, but still want to you still have time. Just send it in with your child in an envelop and I will make sure that the room moms get it. This is not required for your child to participate in holiday parties. Instead, it is just to help with the cost of the materials for the crafts and games that the children play. Thank you!!

Box Tops

It is that time of year when many are cooking and preparing for holiday festivities. Please take a moment and check for any box tops that you may have on these items. You can just send them in with your child as you collect them. Thank you!

Coming up next week...

Reading -we will be looking at a few fairy tales this week. We will be talking about what makes up a fairy tale. We will also be comparing and contrasting a few of the fairy tales.

Writing - We will be continuing to write our own fiction story that includes a problem and solution. We will also be focusing on having a complete sentence that starts with a capital letter, ends with the correct punctuation, and makes sense.

Math - We be using this week to review all of the skills that we have learned so far this year. We will be focusing a great deal on story problems and giving two ways to prove every story problem that we complete.

Social studies - We will continue discussing traditions that we see around us and that we have at home. We will discuss how to respect and learn from everyone's traditions.
