The Good
"Tsunami of band students honing their craft of music on their personal time before school after school and during lunch."
"I learned how our orchestra students were interested in my screensaver of Georges Seurat, and knew about pointillism and were interested in learning more about this type of art!"
"This week during PE I saw one of our students desperately trying to involve a student with autism in their game of basketball. The boy with autism had no clue what to do with the ball once the other boy passed it to him but he was smiling and so happy that he was included. It had myself and the two other teachers smiling and laughing along with the kids. "
"When I contacted parents with positive phone calls, one mother said, 'You're gonna make me cry tears of happiness! It is so reassuring to know my challenging pre-teen child is a joy in your class!' "
Maximizing Class Time
The most effective classrooms...
1) Establish a daily routine that engages student in the learning as soon as they walk into the classroom.
2) Keep students engaged in content-related learning until the bell rings.
I'd ask you to self-reflect on whether the above is true in your classroom. If this is an area where you feel a need to improve and want support, please ask me, Barb, Dave, or Erika. We are happy to help!
