Monday Memo

We Are Family - September 20, 2021

Dear Parents,

Please see below for registration for all CYO sports this school year. The flyer has registration deadlines and grade levels for all sports. The cost for each sport is $65. CYO is open to all parish children, regardless of enrollment status, and all of our registered school students, regardless of parish membership. Boys Basketball registration for 4th - 8th grade closes this Friday so please be sure to register asap.

We will have our first assembly since 2020 on Wednesday. Our students will gather outdoors in the north parking lot and enjoy a visit from Cardinal Ritter High School. CRHS's cheerleaders will come to lead games and the drumline will entertain us with their expertise. Students may wear their We are Family shirts with jeans or uniform bottoms this Wednesday to celebrate our assembly.

Our PS - K students will have their first prayer service this Wednesday at 2:15 PM in the church. It's a wonderful service that the younger students lead once a month. Parents are welcome to join us if you are available.

Below you will find a flyer from the health department. They are hosting a drive-thru testing and vaccination clinic this week from 12-8, M-W, at Hummel Park.

Have a great week Spartans!

God bless,

Janet Abdoulaye, Principal

Important Information About EDM Billing

The first EDM statements will be emailed this week. Going forward, statements are emailed bi-monthly depending upon calendar breaks. Please know that you may apply money to your EDM account at any time and do not need to wait until you receive a statement. You may send a check via backpack mail marked EDM or make a payment via bank transfer or credit card at www.saintsusannaschool.com/pay No additional processing fee is assessed for online payments through this link. Cash payments must be paid directly to Mrs. Brown at the reception desk and cash should not be sent through backpack mail. Money is applied to your account when received and charges deduct from this balance. We appreciate when you are able to keep a positive balance in your account since the EDM program is self-supporting.

Around Our School

Kindergarten had a busy week! They had a STEM building activity with marshmallows and straws as they studied the letters M and S! (above) They also had a lot of fun at recess making friends and watching the helicopter take off from Duke Energy! (below)
Our fifth - eighth graders worked on a variety of projects in science and social studies this week from learning about how difficult it is to create consensus and using tools for measurement.

Support Mrs. Huther in the October Buddy Walk

The Huther Family will be walking in the Buddy Walk this year to support Down Syndrome of Indiana.

From Mrs. Huther: Caroline is a six year old who loves Kindergarten, bacon, and her Barbies. I could not image our family with out our Sweet Caroline.

I'm involved in the Buddy Walk® to support people with Down syndrome in my community. Please support my efforts as an advocate for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.

For every step I take and every dollar I raise, I am helping to create a culture that fully includes the more than 400,000 Americans with Down syndrome. Last year, more than $12.1 million dollars was raised by more than 305,000 Buddy Walk® participants worldwide.

Your support for the Buddy Walk®, either by walking with me or by making a donation, will help honor and celebrate people with Down syndrome.

Parent - Teacher Conferences

Parent / Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 13th and 14th from 1-6 PM. Please sign up for a conference with your children's homeroom teachers. At this time, we plan to offer in-person OR online video conferences, whichever best suit your needs. Depending on the situation with COVID in October, these may move entirely online. When signing up for conferences, please indicate if you would prefer an online conference.

School Counselor

I am happy to announce that Saint Susanna has a school counselor available for our students on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ms. Katie Evans comes to us from Catholic Charities. She is a licensed clinical social worker / therapist. She will work with students on an individual basis, as needed. She will also teach whole class social-emotional lessons on topics such as being a good friend, bullying, and other age-appropriate topics. Ms. Evans presence in our school is made possible by utilizing a portion of our EANS grant from the federal government over the next two school years.

Students may be referred to Ms. Evans by teachers or the principal for a one-time visit. After that, parents must complete an consent form for continued visits. The consent form is available at the end of the Monday Memo or in the school office. You can reach Ms. Evans directly at kevans@saintsusanna.com

Volunteer Opportunities

The service hour tracking form can be found here and a copy will be sent home in the back-to-school packets. We ask that each family complete five service hours this school year. These hours can be completed during school or parish events.

Box Tops for Education

Here’s how it works:

  • Step 1: Download the new Box Tops App (iTunes or Google Play) – it’s free
  • Step 2: Create a username and connect it to your child’s school
  • Step 3: Scan your grocery store receipt. Items with the new Box Tops label will be automatically credited to your school

Does this mean I should stop sending in my paper Box Tops that I have already clipped? No! Continue to send those to the school!
