From Mr. McCall's Desk
This year, you will hear everyone talking about THE STANDARD STARTS HERE and how we will all #RISEasONE as our theme and motto for the year.
Everyone at GMS has a part in the Greene Devil Standard. GMS and GHS have worked hard to raise the standard in academics and athletics, from safety to schedules, and respect to rules and policies to create a system that ALL STUDENTS can succeed. We are all in this together and appreciate your continued support in our many upgrades to the GMS experience for everyone.
Our teachers and staff have recommitted to THE STANDARD and I want to be the first to thank them for everything they are doing. I can't wait to see the great things we will do at GMS this year.
"I do have high standards. But I do not expect anything of anyone else that I do not expect of myself." -O.N.J
Have a great one. I appreciate all of you.
Mr. McCall

Bus Information
Riding the bus with a friend *IMPORTANT*
If your student has someone riding the bus home with them for a certain reason, they must bring a signed note from a parent to the Assistant Principal's office before their lunch period. NO notes will be accepted after lunch, at the end of the day, or during dismissal. The note must include:
-Name of all students riding together
-Bus Number
-Where they are to be dropped off
-Phone number for verification
Failure to include all information could result in denial of the bus request. This is to ensure there is space on the bus and the drivers can safely deliver all students where they need to go at the end of the day. Thank you!

If you haven’t yet paid your student’s school fees, you may conveniently pay on the online school store HERE. There is a small service fee included in the transaction. You may also pay these fees in person at the GMS Main Office during school hours.
Students taking Art, Engineering/Technical, Science or Biology all will have small class fees that are on the online school store.

For the last two years, the Department of Agriculture grant provided free meals to all students and that grant expired. To prepare for payment, please either complete the free and reduced lunch form and/or determine your preferred payment method for meals.
When students get a meal in the cafeteria, they are required to get three (3) items and one of those being a fruit.

Dress Code
*Reminder that the Air Conditioners are on and working great, a light jacket is recommended to put in backpacks if needed.*
Greeneville Middle School takes pride in the appearance of its students and faculty. Your dress reflects the quality of your school and the values of the community. All students are expected to dress and groom themselves neatly in a manner suitable for school activities. The student’s hair should not be worn so that it covers the face and/or eyes. We ask that all students use good judgment and discretion in the choice of what is worn at school. When a student is attired in a manner that does not meet the school dress standards or is likely to cause disruption or interference with the operation of the school, the student will be sent home and not readmitted until he/she is properly attired or groomed. Additional consequences will also be administered according to the GMS discipline policy. The administration will decide what is appropriate in each case.
Specific dress code guidelines for students are as follows:
1. Shoes must be always worn because of health and safety reasons. Footwear should be subject matter appropriate.
2. Apparel that causes a disruption including clothing that includes pictures, drawings, words or implied references to illegal substances, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vulgar or profane language, sexual connotations, gangs, violence, political slander or questionable slogans may not be worn at school or school functions.
3. No headgear such as hats, toboggans, bandanas (anywhere on body), hoods, etc. are to be worn by male or female students while in the building or attending classes. Nonprescription sunglasses and tinted prescription glasses are prohibited.
4. Muscle shirts, tank tops, midriff shirts, halter-tops, tube tops, and spaghetti strap tops are not appropriate in the school environment. Tops may be sleeveless; however, they must have a minimum of 2” shoulder seams. (They may be measured by the width of a credit card or student ID.) The material must be at or near the base of the neck to modestly cover the chest area.
5. The length of shorts, dresses, and skirts must be moderate and appropriate for an academic setting. No undergarments or private areas may be visible at any point in the school day. Fabric covering breasts, belly, genitals, and buttocks must be opaque.
6. Clothing which allows undergarments to be visible is not allowed. Pants must be worn at or near the waist. Clothing must not expose the stomach, chest, ribcage, midriff, back area or buttock while standing, sitting, walking (including stairs), or participating in school activities.
7. The wearing of personal adornments or embellishments that may be disruptive, cause health/safety problems, or may be related to gang attire is not acceptable. (Ex. Chains, dog collars, studded bands, trench coats etc.)
8. Students will not roll, fold, or do anything else to alter the appropriate length of pants or shorts.
9. Please refrain from anything that disrupts our learning environment that might not be listed here (example: related to a current TikTok trend).

STUDENT HANDBOOK UPDATE- CELL PHONE POLICY
Including AirPods and Smart Watches
GMS being a 1:1 school with technology, cell phones are not necessary during the school day. Students will keep all cell phones powered OFF during school hours unless it is an approved medical device.
*If the student is in the building, the cell phone is off and stored correctly.
Students will keep phones off and in backpacks upon entering the school building, and at the beginning of each class period place their cell phones in the designated area by each classroom teacher. Students will pick up their phones at the end of the class period and repeat the same procedure for each class during the day.
Phones are not permitted in common areas, hallways, or bathrooms at any time.
Therefore, students do not need to wear AirPods (or the like) or any service-connected Smart Watches during the day unless it is an approved medical device. A smart watch receiving messages or notifications is considered the same as a cell phone. Students may choose to place those in cell phone areas with their phone or not wear them to school. Smart Watches not connected to phones to be used as a regular watch is permitted.
Students may bring plug in earbuds or headphones to use with their school issued device. If AirPods are the student’s choice, they are to be used for classroom purposes only.
If a student’s personal devices are brought to the attention of administration, a parent/guardian will be contacted to retrieve the device and proper consequences (Level I, failure to comply) will be administered. Repeat violations could result in additional consequences.
Car Rider Information
- Car riders may begin entering the building at 7:00 AM. Please do not exit cars until a GMS staff member is present.
- Car riders should be dropped off and picked up at the back of the building in the unloading/ loading zone under the direction of GMS staff members.

- Car riders not picked up by 3:00 PM should be picked up at the front of the building.
- All car riders must be picked up by 3:10 PM each day.

- Vehicles will not be allowed on campus before 2:00. The CarRiderPro system will not scan tags before 2:00.
