2021 Essay Contest for students in grades 10-12
Topic: 50 Years From Today: Will We Be Living In a Better World?
First prize: $250 Second Prize: $100 Third Prize: $50
IMPORTANT! Please note: the deadline for essay submissions is MARCH 15, 2021.
In your essay, explain whether you think that the world will be in better shape than it is today or whether it will not be better. Use specific examples to illustrate your point of view. Why are you hopeful for a better world, or pessimistic about the future? Or are you optimistic in some areas and pessimistic in others? You may address any aspects of global or local concern for optimism or pessimism, although you might want to limit the number of examples that you cite. You may include specific steps that need to be taken to make the world a better place, if you are hopeful for positive changes.
You may address the topic from any point of view. You may make calls for action related to your thoughts. Remember that your treatment of the topic should be in the form of an essay, not a letter or a poem.
Submit your electronic essay and official entry form to HRCREssayContest@gmail.com Any questions may also be addressed to the same gmail address.
The Harvard-Radcliffe Club of Rochester invites all area students in grades 10-12 to demonstrate their writing skill and creative ideas in this Essay Contest. You can take any position, argue any point, and espouse any cause in relation to this theme…so long as the work is your own and no one else’s. We are looking for students with fresh perspectives, well-reasoned arguments, and excellent verbal skills.

Students Interested in Air Force ROTC,
My name is Captain Ryan Kittle and I am the Recruiting Officer for Air Force ROTC Detachment 536 and an instructor at Clarkson University, Saint Lawrence University, SUNY Potsdam, and SUNY Canton.
I am emailing your office to ensure that your students who are interested in enrolling in Air Force ROTC while attending college are aware of our upcoming virtual Shadow Day program on Monday 15 February 2021.
What is Shadow Day?
Shadow Day is an exciting opportunity for interested high school junior and senior students to experience the Air Force ROTC program at Detachment 536 prior to entering their freshman year of college. We partner interested students with current cadets and to preview Air Force ROTC and university classes, Leadership Laboratory training, Physical Training, and campus lifestyle.
How Will Shadow Day be Conducted This Year in Light of COVID-19?
For the safest and most informative experience possible during the pandemic, this year’s Shadow Day will be conducted virtually. Interested students will be able to remain at home while previewing college life and AFROTC training. Zoom links will be provided to all attendees. For health & safety purposes, there is no in-person or overnight option this year.
Attached you will find a flyer for those who may be interested in the program.
We ask that any of your students who are interested in attending the virtual Shadow Day program or are interested in joining our Air Force ROTC program in general after high school please contact us directly at det536af@clarkson.edu or rkittle@clarkson.edu and we will email them a quick survey to complete.
The survey should be completed by 31 January 2021 for our planning purposes.
