WEEKLY WONDERS

Charles Ellis Montessori Academy, Week of February 27, 2023

Big picture

"Perhaps a great future leader or a great genius is with us and his power will come from the power of the child he is today. This is the vision which we must have."- Dr. Maria Montessori (The 1946 London Lectures, p.140)

Pictured above: Friday, February 24th was district-wide Read United Day. Community volunteers read a book to all Primary and Lower Elementary classrooms and delivered a brand new book to each student for them to add to their home library.

Special thanks to all the volunteer readers and to the United Way of the Coastal Empire for organizing this event for our students.

  • Students use their student ID/lunch number just like a library card. (Found in PowerSchool)
  • The program is free and access to public library resources and services is free.

Water Bottles NEEDED

Per District guidance, students are currently restricted from drinking straight from the water fountains in the building for sanitary reasons.

Until the school receives updated guidance from the District, every student should have a re-fillable bottle to use so they can stay hydrated throughout the day.

Thank you for your help with this important health and safety matter.

Pre-order a Yearbook!

The 2022/2023 Ellis yearbook is now available for pre-order! Reserve a copy for your student(s) at this link.

The deadline to pre-order a copy is March 15, 2023. Any additional copies that we receive will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Pre-ordered yearbooks will be delivered directly to your student towards the end of the school year.

If you have any questions, contact Ms. Lisa (lisa.odonnell@sccpss.com).

Grace & Courtesy Emphasis

Throughout the school year, Ellis has a school-wide focus on specific positive character traits. Each teacher may choose to highlight these "Grace & Courtesy" emphases differently, but as a school we follow a general common curriculum.

From February 20th - March 10th, our school-wide Grace & Courtesy emphasis is PEACE.

The language for identifying/naming PEACE in "The Self-Awakened Child" series by Jonathan Wolff:

  • When I feel calm and quiet inside, when I do not let anyone or anything take away my calmness and quiet, I am feeling and being Peaceful.
  • When I try to understand another person's feelings and thoughts, when I talk with him about our problems instead of hurting him or hitting him, I am being Peaceful.
  • When I feel angry or scared and I help myself feel calm and quiet inside instead of hurting someone or telling someone to go away, I am practicing Peacefulness.
