The MTSS lunch time intervention is alive and well. Many students have been taking advantage of the counselor’s presence in 506. The counselors have been working with students about academics, personal issues, or with students who just want to hang out. MCBH continues making presentations in specific areas to help students make good decisions. Upward Bound is also helping with some tier 2 interventions by holding drop in tutoring after school on Monday’s from 3:00 to 5:00.

Le jour des Morts Celebration (LCAP GOAL 2)

On Friday November 1, Madame Dunston and Senora Romero took French 3 and Spanish 1 students to Gabilan Plaza to celebrate Le Jour des Morts/El Dia de los Muertos. Students enjoyed pan de muertos/Le pain des morts, burritos, pizza, hot chocolate, to name a few..

This holiday is also called All Saints' Day and is celebrated by the Roman Catholic church, Easter Orthodox, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed churches.

The Day begins with a Holy mass dedicated to the dead. Afterwards, families visit cemeteries to deposit white chrysanthemums(mums) and offerings(offandes/ofrenda). Then, people gather in homes to share foods/drinks and memories of their loved ones who have passed away.

It is usually a National Holiday.

Hamilton (LCAP GOAL 1 & 2)

Led by Ms. Amundson and Ms. Wilson, SHS took 90 students and 9 chaperones to San Francisco to see the Broadway play Hamilton. Students spent weeks researching that historical time period creating original poems, songs, and scenes to secure their ticket. Out of the hundreds of submissions, our very own Elizabeth Pantoja was selected to perform her original poem, co-written by Emily Casacca, on stage in front of more than a thousand people. The experience was phenomenal and everyone left San Francisco deeply inspired. This once in a lifetime experience will not be forgotten.
