Brought to you by the Shepard Elementary PTA
From our Principal
Dear Parents,
As we move into the second semester we begin to reflect on our systems and programs. We have several tools to assist us with this process. We have our SBIC committee. This group works collaboratively to determine the best practices for the campus and to ensure that we are following our campus improvement plan. We are meeting this week to review our goals and make any adjustments to the plan.
Also, we have a new accountability piece from the state. It is the A-F grading system. Mr. Lillie and I will be explaining it in depth at the next Principals’ Roundtable. We are sending home flyers soon, but mark your calendars for February 7th at 7:30 am.
Another resource, the State 2015-2016 School Report Card for Shepard Elementary, has now been released and is posted to the school’s website. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages and financial expenditures. The information contained in the School Report Card is described in the “School Report Card Definitions.” If you have any questions concerning the School Report Cards, please let us know. Thank you for your continued support of Shepard Elementary.
We have parent teacher conferences for Kinder-2nd in February and your child’s teacher will be contacting you soon with more details. If you have a student in grades 3-5 and wish to have a conference, please contact your child’s teacher.
As always thanks for your support,
Principal Lancaster
From Wilson Middle School to Our 5th Grade Rams and Parents
We absolutely loved meeting our 5th Grade Rams during their visit on Thursday, January 19th!
Parents, we look forward to meeting you, as well, and guiding you and your student through the transition to middle school. We encourage parents and students to join us this Tuesday, January 24th, from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the Wilson Cafeteria for a Parent Information Night. Your student received a green registration folder at the conclusion of their visit to take home. Please bring that folder and its contents with you to the meeting. Cathy Shepheard, who will be your student’s counselor next year, and other Wilson Staff will present information that will assist you in completing the registration process for 6th Grade.
We look forward to seeing you then!
FRUITY FRIDAYS (or Vary your veggies, and Focus on fruits)
Good nutrition is essential for providing the energy children need to grow, learn, and
play. To encourage healthy school snacks, we are having Fruity Fridays at Shepard,
during the month of February. A count is taken with attendance on Fridays, as to the
number of students in each class that brought a fresh vegetable or fruit for morning snack.
Percentages are posted weekly on a poster by the gymnasium. The class with the highest
percentage for the month, receives a free frozen fruit bar, compliments of the Shepard
cafeteria. Please help us, by encouraging your student to bring a fruit or veggie snack on
Fridays.
