Weekly GT Update
December 7, 2015
What's Going On?
We are still coding and will finish this unit before Christmas Break. The students have done really well with this topic and many of them have expressed interest in continuing to code even after we are done in class. Coding requires a lot of critical thinking and problem solving. Students have done well with learning from failure and working through difficult situations to find solutions.
3rd - 5th grade students are steadily working on Genius Hour. Many students are close to completing their projects and moving on to something new. We are in the process of contacting outside experts and posting completed projects on our blog. If you are able, please talk to your child about his/her project at home and encourage them to work hard to accomplish their goals.
Hour of Code
This week is Hour of Code and our entire campus will be introduced to coding. Over 1 million jobs will go unfilled because students are not taught to code. We will spend this week ensuring that every student in grades K-5 are introduced to a very basic form of coding and the impact this skill can have on their future. If you would like to more or would like for your child to code over Christmas Break, please let me know!
It's that time of year. Christmas is right around the corner and will be here before we know it. I found a great resource with lots of gift ideas for gifted students. I will include several of these each week but wanted you to have a master list with lots of good ideas.

Please remind your child to try to check Edmodo at least 3-5 times a week. This is the best way for me to provide them with enrichment and updates since I only see them once a week. If you would like to sign in as a parent and need help, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help.
