Summer School - Thank You for Your Patience
We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as District 30 works with our vendor to resolve registration issues for Summer School 2023. Registration remains on pause until we can assure that the process is working correctly.
Picking a summer program for your students is important and we share your concern and frustration, which is why we are communicating daily with our vendor to correct these issues. Please be assured that when registration resumes, we will work to make sure that in-district students can be enrolled in their preferred classes.
We will alert parents here in The Wescott Word as soon as registration resumes. Should you have additional questions, please email summerschool@district30.org. Thank you!
Classroom Placements for 2023-24
February 24, 2023
Dear Parents,
This is the time of year when staff begin thinking about classroom placements for the coming school year. This is a very delicate process, which takes into account many factors in an effort to create the best possible learning environment for each child. This includes:
Gender balance
Student academic strengths/weaknesses
Student learning styles
Social dynamics
Identified special needs
Student/teacher match
Class size
The placement process is a team effort completed with care and consideration. Classroom teachers work with special area teachers to review student needs and dynamics. The process requires significant time and collaboration.
You may want to share information about your child to help us in this process. Each year children grow and change, as do relationship dynamics, so information that you may have shared in the past is not referred to during this year's process. If you wish to provide input, it may include information related to your child's learning style, social dynamics with other children, and/or academic strengths & weaknesses.
We ask that you do not request a specific teacher for your child. Please do not make this request of your child’s current teacher. Such requests cannot be honored, as this opportunity is not available to all children and the staffing may change between now and the beginning of next year.
This input should be put in writing to your building principal no later than Friday, March 31. Information received after this date may not be considered. Please know email is the preferred method for this communication directly to Dr. Brown cbrown@district30.org.
We trust that you will rely on our professional judgment as we group the children with the idea of creating the best learning environment for everyone. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
Sincerely,
Christopher M. Brown, Ed.D.

Harry Potter Club for 3rd, 4th, & 5th Grade
Calling all Harry Potter fans! Wescott is offering an after school Harry Potter Breakout EDU Club for 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-grade students. Breakout EDU is similar to an escape room game! Each week students will solve different clues from each Harry Potter book to “breakout” of the game. Club participants must have knowledge of Harry Potter storylines in order to solve the clues and successfully complete the games!
The club will be held on Tuesdays for 3rd-graders and Thursdays for 4th and 5th-graders from 3:10 to 4:10 p.m., beginning March 7 running eight weeks through May 4. Membership is limited due to limited space and supplies. Priority is given to students who have not participated in a club yet this year. Registration opens on Monday, February 27 at 8:00 a.m.
Click here for the 3rd Grade registration form.
Click here for the 4th & 5th Grade registration form.
Please note, completing this form does not guarantee admission. Ms. Davis and Ms. Hoffman will contact you if your student is in the club. For any questions, please email adavis@district30.org.
Spring 2023 Kindness Krew Club
Calling 4th & 5th-grade students! Join the Wescott Kindness Krew! In this after-school club, students will spread kindness around the school by helping teachers with various classroom projects and assisting the Helping Hands committee when needed. Krew members will also come up with their own ideas for spreading kindness around Wescott.
The club will meet on Mondays from 3:10 to 4:10 p.m. beginning March 13 running eight weeks through May 8. (No meeting on March 27 during spring break.)
Parents will be required to arrange transportation of their children from school grounds. Since crossing guards are not on duty, any student who walks home needs parental permission.
Click here to register. Registration opens on Monday, February 27 at 8:00 a.m. Please note, completing the form does not guarantee admission. Mrs. J will contact you if your student is in the club. Contact Mrs. Janavicius with questions: mjanavicius@district30.org

Illinois 5Essentials Survey Runs through March 31
Students and teachers across Illinois now have an opportunity to participate in the 11th annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted January 24 through March 31. The Parent Survey Supplement will be conducted during that same timeframe. To take the survey please click here or the button below and select the appropriate survey to begin.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ reports, please click here. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact UChicago Impact Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.
