Jewell Jaguar Update
Back to School August 2015
A Note From Our Principal
Greeting RE Jewell Families,
I hope your summer has been full of laughter, smiles, and wonderful experiences!
It is hard to believe that the beginning of school is right around the corner and that the halls will soon be full of kids. Construction is coming along and all of the new restrooms and playground area will be wonderful once everything is done!
I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that our school will finally be totally enclosed with fencing around all of our fields and playground areas later this fall. This has been a big push with the district to help ensure student safety and limit access to the school/fields by strangers.
The biggest implication for the students that walk to/from school is they will no longer be able to access the north playground (by the Sun Meadow subdivision) or entrances to the school through the gates by the ball field as those gates will be locked at all times. This also means that at the end of the day, students will not be able to leave through the field to get home. Please let your kids know that for their own safety, they are not to climb the fence to take a "short cut". Students will need to walk around to either the west side (front), or the east side (back) of the school to enter.
Thank you for your attention to this and for your reminders to your students about this change.
Looking forward to meeting you all soon!
Scott Edmondson

Bus Routes Changes for 2015-16 - Confirm Your Route Info Online
Bend-La Pines Schools is excited to open two new schools in September 2015. With the opening of the new schools, most schools in the bend area will see new attendance boundaries. In addition, many of the established neighborhoods are changing with construction that is happening all over our community. Our Transportation Department will be adjusting bus routes and non-transport areas to regain and/or maintain compliance with ORS 327.043 which states: "A school district is required to provide transportation for elementary students who reside more than one mile from school and for secondary school students who reside more than 1.5 miles from school".
Please be aware that many bus routes will change for the 2015-16 school year.
This may include changing routes from transport zones to non-transport zones, depending on attendance area changes, construction, and distance from school.
For bus route information please visit our website at bend.k12.or.us. Routes will be available beginning mid-August. Questions about changes may be directed to
our department at 541-355-5700. If you wish to submit a "bus stop change request" you may find the form on the school district web site. We will be happy to consider your requests after the first two weeks of school in September. As our school district grows there are many exciting changes and we are proud to be part of this great community.
Students Invited to Learn the Rules of the Bus at Winnie the Pooh Events Aug. 20-22
The one-hour sessions will take place at 501 SE Second Ave., Bend at the corner of Second and Wilson Avenue at the following times:
• Thursday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
• Friday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Students learn how to line up to wait for the bus, how to behave on the bus and how to cross the street safely. Any student who is unfamiliar with bus safety may attend the events.
Extra help will also be available on the first day of school. Each kindergarten bus route in the district will have an extra bus driver onboard during the first few days of school to help the new students with school bus rules.
