PARCC & AP Testing Beings
PARCC testing will begin the week of April 28th. Our theme for this year is
"Scoring Higher, Farther, Faster...3-4-5"!
Only scholars in grades 7, 8, & 10 are scheduled to take the PARCC. It is imperative that all scholars are present at the start of school, as they must begin testing at the same time. All scholars are expected to check-in on Sunday evening to avoid any delays in testing on Monday morning.
Where at all possible, please schedule doctor appointments after 4 p.m. or during the following week.

Family Volunteers Needed
The Academic Program is in need of family volunteers during PARCC week, April 29th - May 2nd for the following:
- Spirit Tunnel Decorating: April 29th, 7-8 p.m.
- Spirit Tunnel Team: April 30th - May 2nd, 7:45-8:10 a.m.
- Hallway Support: April 30th - May 2nd, 8-11 a.m. & 1-3 p.m.
- Break Rooms: April 30th - May 2nd, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The Student Life Program is in need of family volunteers with great organizational skills to assist with organizing the supply closet with dormitory items such as uniforms, toiletries, bedding, and academic supplies.
The available times are Sundays, Mondays, & Fridays for any two hour window, 6-8 p.m.
Volunteers are also need for:
- Dinner duty support (Mon-Thurs 5:00-7:00 p.m.)
- School store support (Mon-Thurs 5:00-8:00p.m.)
- Hallway supervision (Mon-Thurs 4:00-9:00p.m.)
- Check-in (7-9 p.m.)
- Check-out (3:30-5:30 p.m.)
- Cosmetology, hair, & skin care [for 7th & 8th grade girls] (Mondays 4:45-5:30 p.m.)

ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS
9th-11th Grade Families - SUMMER SCHOOL INFO
9th-11th Grade Families,
As we prepare for the end of year, SEED will be working with 9th-11th graders that failed select classes within the scale range of 50-69%, from June 10th-19th from 8 a.m. to 4p.m. Attending scholars will complete projects and extended work. These scores will be combined with their final semester/year end grade. All other scholars with grades lower than 50% will have to attend the full summer school period. Families will receive phone calls, emails, and a letter to confirm if a student is in danger of failing a course. Attention Families of Choir Students!!!! - SPRING CONCERT
The Spring Concert is coming up May 16th @ 2 p.m. All families are encouraged to come out and supports in this annual event.
Scholars have been informed of the concert attire:
- Female Attire: All white skirts & top or dress w/white or black shoes
- Male Attire: All white pants & shirt w/white or black shoes
Any scholars having difficulty with getting their attire should notify Mr. Hughes as soon as possible via email at thughes@seedschooldc.org.
Participation is MANDATORY for all scholars enrolled in music class and counts as a test grade.

Healthy & Safe Fest 2019
Saturday, April 27, 2019; we'd like to cordially invite families of The SEED School of Washington to the Health and Safe Fest 2019 at the National Historic Anacostia Park! This special event expects over 200 families to engage in a Marathon (Walkers, Bike riders, scooters, trike…everyone) to come together in support of world health and safety. After the marathon, guest can fellowship with vendors, receive resourceful information, participate in crowd engaging activities, demonstrations and indulge in healthy tasty tidbits.
Vision Services for Students Enrolled in DC Medicaid
Without proper detection and diagnosis, poor vision may impact a student’s behavior, attendance, and academic success. If a student is enrolled in DC Medicaid, vision services are available through the child’s primary care provider. Under DC Medicaid, annual eye examinations and most eyeglasses or contact lenses are completely covered. If referred by a primary care provider or school nurse, DC Medicaid will also cover examinations and vision services by specialists. Language services and transportation to and from appointments are available when scheduled in advance.

Access to glasses and contact lenses is important for student success. School leaders are encouraged to work with school nurses to make this information available for students and families enrolled in DC Medicaid.
