Band Boosters Fish Fry, January 18th, 5-9pm, Round Table, Sun Prairie

In conjunction with the Knights of Columbus the Sun Prairie Band Boosters will be hosting our Second Annual Fish Fry at the Round Table in Sun Prairie. Last year we were thrilled with the number of families who came out to enjoy dinner and support the band. We would be grateful for your participation to ensure another successful event as this is a significant fundraiser for the Boosters.

Please consider volunteering your time. Students, families, friends and alumni are welcome to come and serve our guests! Sign-ups are coming soon. This is a rewarding and fun experience while getting to work alongside other great band families. We also have a silent auction and would appreciate any donations you would be willing to share. Please contact: with any questions.

Don't forget to invite your friends and family!

WSMA District Solo/Ensemble Festival - Sat., Feb. 9 @ PMMS

WSMA Solo/Ensemble Information - Saturday, Feb. 9 (Optional event for 6th graders and required of 7th graders IF they did not do the 7th Solo Night)

Each year the Sun Prairie School District hosts the WSMA District Solo/Ensemble Festival. This year's festival is Saturday, February 9th from 8am - 4 pm at PMMS. At the Solo/Ensemble Festival, a WSMA certified adjudicator will listen to each student perform. The student will then receive both written and verbal comments. The performances are not competitive (i.e. student vs student). Rather, the adjudicator is providing the student with feedback on how well he/she performed the music and SE events can receive a rating from the adjudicator between 1-5 (1 meaning excellent to 5 poor). The PMMS music department has opted NOT to receive the ratings for any student performance. The students will receive “comments only”. In our opinion, the “rating” tends to distract students from the real purpose of the festival -- the music. This event requires a registration fee (see below)

6th Graders can participate in this event if they wish and can perform the solo they performed at the 6th grade solo night. The biggest difference in the events is the size. The 6th grade solo night is on a much smaller scale, but students basically receive the same feedback. One major benefit, however, is that the students can hear older students perform at the WSMA Festival.

Students will be responsible for the entry fees for all solos and ensembles. An exact schedule with your child's performance will be created one or two weeks prior to the festival. Please try to keep the entire day free, however, if you have a request for a performance time (morning, early afternoon, or afternoon) then please note that on this registration form. All performances are free to attend and open to the public.

Parent Band - Mon, Feb. 11 and Feb. 18

As a part of our learning process in band, the students of the 6th and 7th grade level bands will be teaching a parent or guardian to play their instrument. They will explain how to begin on their instrument, they will teach you the first 5-7 notes on their instrument, and they will coach you through a piece of beginning band music. The "final exam" will be a performance at our Early Spring Band Concert, Monday, February 18! We are planning to have one short rehearsal on Monday, February 11th from 7:00-7:30 PM in the Patrick Marsh Band Room. Please consider this enriching opportunity to help your child learn and learn for yourself some of the same things your son or daughter does every day.

How do you sign-up? Sign-up at one of the tables at the Winter Concert or email Mrs. Haraldson and let her know. Parent Band Music will be available at the concert or will be sent home with your child.

The PERFECT Gift For Your Child (and it is under $5)

App developers have created some good apps for musicians in recent years. However, one of the BEST apps that nearly every professional uses is TE Tuner (Tonal Energy Tuner). This app provides feedback about your child's pitch and tuning. It also has a metronome to assist with steady pulse as well as fancy tools like a tone generator and visual analyzer. I think it may also do your laundry! This is a must-have for all musicians and it is $4.99! It is available for iOS and Android devices.
