WM Kindergarten Curriculum Update

Reading and Writing
Readers will retell a story using character names, tell where the story takes place and tell important parts of the story. They will use expression and meaningful voice as they act out stories.
Writers will use sentence starters to create and publish pattern books. These books will help establish writing stories across multiple pages.
Math
In Unit 2 we will...
-Quickly recognize how many objects are in a collection (up to 5) without counting
-Compare sets using the words more and less
-Develop number sense with combinations that make 5, and then 10
-Count objects and match the quantity to the written numeral
-Build with two-dimensional shapes
Science
Fall Trees Investigation:
Students will:
-Observe trees in the schoolyard
-Identify the parts of a tree
-Compare trees for similarities and differences
-Develop language associated with trees
Social Studies
Focusing on How Do I Make Friends:
Students learn how to interact respectfully with one another in the classroom. In a series of Social Studies Skill Builder activities, students learn skills for making new friends. We talk about how to ask a friend to play and distinguish between friendly and unfriendly behaviors.

Technology
Students will navigate educational apps on an iPad. Students will be able to identify iPad parts and how to operate the iPad independently. Students will begin to practice logging into a computer with their unique username and password.
Art
What is art? Why do people make art? How can you make art? How do artists use line? How do artists use shape? (Express Yourself! Self Portraits, A Line is a Dot that Takes a Walk, Drawing With Scissors)
