FRIDAY IS SPIRIT DAY!
ART NEWS FROM MR. BENSON
As we begin the year in art, kid artists have been working hard to experiment and create in our art studio!
This year we are adopting a new philosophy for teaching and learning in our art classes called Teaching for Artistic Behavior, which is a choice based, student-centered approach to making art. Through a variety of learning activities, students are seeking out their own artistic problems and working to solve them, while honing their creative thinking, collaboration, and complex problem solving skills. Kindergarten, First, and Second grades have also been learning about color families and shape, to inspire some of the art making during their classes, while 3rd-6th grades have been focusing on developing skills of an artist like planning and working on art over many days to build artistic stamina. Over the past few weeks, all students have been working through art and design challenges, learning how to set up and clean our work spaces, creating art, and learning to share and talk about art with peers.
