Deer Clan of the Cherokee
By Janae Belk- Or, more commonly known as Inola
Deer Clan
The Deer clan of the Cherokee were keepers of the deer (coincidentally). The members of the deer clan were primarily the deer hunters, tanners, and seamers. They also cared for all of the animals living on tribal grounds and respected all animals of the forest. The members of the Deer clan were considered to be the fastest runners of the tribes and would take messages from one tribe to another.
Ani Kawi
Ani Kawi is the Deer clan's original name, but due to the harder pronunciation, it is mainly used as a nickname.
