Principal's Message
The Memorial Day weekend weather has been beautiful and it looks like the clear and hot weather will continue this week. Memorial Day is a national holiday established after the Civil War to honor the men and women who gave their lives while in service to the nation. I have included a link to a clip from OPB if you want to refresh your memory of the significance of this holiday.
While some COVID restrictions still exist, three months ago we weren’t sure about a return to school let alone if we would be able to have events like graduation, prom, etc. I want to acknowledge the commitment and perseverance of the Senior Grad Celebration Committee in planning, fund raising, communicating, and ultimately ensuring that ISB graduates have a celebration this year. Please read their information below that includes final fundraising events and more ways in which you can contribute to this event.
Notices are being sent home now about fines/fees that may be on your child/children’s account. Please make sure to return all books and materials and clear those accounts by the end of the school year.
The thing that excites me most about the weather is the ability for students attending in-person to get outside during lunch to socialize and shoot hoops or play wall ball. We had a wonderful 9th Grade Shindig last week thanks to Amy Schuff and the 9th Grade Success Team. Coming up on June 5th is an 8th grade celebration as well as the Junior/Senior Prom. We are still masking and being socially distanced when required, but school is looking and feeling more normal. What a difference from when I started in January when there were no students or teachers in the school! It will be wonderful to have all students attending in-person next year.
Take care.
Sincerely,
Janice Adams
Senior Grad Celebration - Volunteers and Donations Needed
What a roller coaster our kiddos have had this year! As they are getting ready to say goodbye to 7-years at ISB, they have missed so many of the traditions many of the seniors of years past have gotten to participate in (such as Coffee House, Homecoming, International Night, Night of Noise, the list goes on). With COVID restrictions still in place, the Senior Grad Celebration Committee is hoping to give them a warm send-off and some closure to their journey of these many years.
The school has authorized an afternoon event following their Senior Awards Assembly on Wednesday, June 9th, 2021, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. There will be a lunch and Senior event in which seniors will get to spend some time together before graduation. We want to try and make this event memorable for them and WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are looking for volunteers to help with the luncheon and activities. We need parent volunteers to cover two shifts 10:30 AM -12:30 PM and 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM. Feel free to sign up for more than one shift. The more parents we can get, the more activities we can provide our graduates.
If you don't have the time to volunteer, we are also taking donations to supply the party. We are looking for the following items:
- Seven (7) Cases of bottled water
- Four (4) Cases of bottled smoothies (Naked/Odwalla ~ I believe Costco has these)
- Individually wrapped treats (chips, crackers, cookies, cakes, candy) for 87 Kids
- Bubble wands for 87 kids
- Sidewalk chalk for 87 kids
- Hand sanitizer
To make it easy to sign up for donations, we have created groups of these in small quantities so that folks can sign up for one or more of the same. We appreciate your contributions in advance!
Please log into the Volunteering portal and sign-up for the activities. The Opportunities tab upon logging in should list all the activities, including donating supplies and other food items, under the category "Seniors Event - Lunch and Party hosted by Grad Night". You can drop off these supplies at Sambo Kirkman's house (16650 SW Red Rock Way) no later than Sunday, June 6th, 2021 and she will bring the supplies to the festivities. You can also coordinate with her directly (503-381-4307).
Also, if you are able, please consider donating to the ISB Senior Grad Celebration Fund that we will use to cover the costs of snacks, drinks, and a t-shirt and gift cards for every senior.
Another way to show support is to purchase one or more Senior Yard Signs: Parents/guardians, don't forget to celebrate your ISB Senior's hard work and accomplishments by proudly displaying a colorful yard sign in front of your home! We are running a special: One for $15, Two for $25, one for you and the other one for grandma or friends to celebrate your senior! Use the order form HERE to place an order. Please be sure to complete this form, and use the link at the bottom of the form to pay. Payment required at time of order. DEADLINE FOR ALL ORDERS: Monday, June 6th at 6pm.
The signs will be distributed at the Senior Graduation Practice/Senior Celebration on Wednesday, June 9th to seniors in attendance. Thanks in advance for your support of our Seniors! All proceeds will go towards our Senior Celebration.
This is probably not what our Seniors expected to replace their Grad Night Party, but what we have learned is that these kids are so resilient and have made the best of this situation. We are hoping to create a nice event to show them how much we appreciate them. Please consider volunteering or donating.
Thank you in advance,
ISB Senior Grad Celebration Committee

Bring Back the Books!
A Campaign to Collect & Return Secondary Classroom Library Books
Many teachers and library staff made sure to send students home with books in March of 2020. Because of this and continued book disbursement through curbside pickup and the Book Bus, Beaverton school and classroom libraries are missing tens of thousands of books! In order to have as many books accessible to students as possible, we are asking for your help in returning books this May and June!
The books can be identified by a white label on the front or back that includes the following information:
Beaverton School District
Your school’s name
Classroom Library Number
Fiction or Nonfiction
Please help your student look for books! We appreciate your help and support in our efforts to Bring Back the Books! Books can be returned to the tub in front of the main entrance. Thank you!
