Fall 2021 Volume 5 (Second Week of School Edition)
Beginning Monday, August 9, 2021, Masks Will Be Required for Everyone
“This decision was not taken lightly,” said Fuhrey. “In only five days of school, we’ve had over 80 confirmed positive cases of student infection and over 200 students have been sent home to quarantine. We tried the mask-optional status but now must revert to requiring mask usage due to the considerable spike in cases.”

- If your child is showing symptoms, please do not send them to school. Please take your child temperature before they leave for school.
- If your child has a positive test for COVID-19, contact our school nurse, Audria Hawkins at hawkins.audria@newton.k12.ga.us
- Families may choose to self-quarantine their child once notified of possible exposure. Please contact our school nurse, Audria Hawkins at hawkins.audria@newton.k12.ga.us of your decision to self-quarantine.
- Students learning in person who are quarantined due to a positive test and students who self-quarantine may continue to stay up to date using their Canvas Page. Please contact the teacher for more details regarding the Canvas Page.
- It is important that all parents keep your contact information up to date and check you email daily to stay informed.
Technology Deployment (Students Issued Devices)
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
*The only students who will not receive a device are those who have not returned technology from last school year or owe a fine for destroying their technology ($300).
In order to receive a Chromebook or a Digital Learning device, parents, the form below must be filled out completely and returned to the school. Please download a copy of the USER Agreement form and return it to the school. If you filled out a form last year, you will have to complete another one for this year. Thank you for understanding.
The Doors of the School Open at 8:15
Morning Parent Drop Offs and Afternoon Car Riders
Children may be dropped off beginning at 8:15 am. Please avoid arriving early as this causes our parking lots to be blocked so that teachers are not able to get to their classrooms to welcome students. Afternoon pick-up will begin at 4:05 pm. Again, please avoid arriving prior to 4:00 pm as this blocks the driveway and parking lot. We expect unusually long lines this year and encourage families to take advantage of bus transportation. After-school pick-up is near the gym area. Please be courteous to our staff who are on Car Rider duty as they want to ensure the safety of your child and other children. Again, thank you for your patience.

CLMS After-School Program starts (August 16, 2021)
Internet and Broadband Wifi Information
The Federal Government has created several programs to assist schools and family during the Covid-19 Pandemic. On May 12, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education released information for school districts regarding the Federal Communication Commission’s Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB). The EBB is a new, temporary Federal program to help eligible families pay for internet service during the pandemic. Households with a child who was approved to receive free or reduced price meals under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or the School Breakfast Program (SBP) during the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school year, including children who attend schools participating in the Community Eligibility Provision, are eligible for the EBB Program. The Department of Education’s EBB website has further information at the following link: https://tech.ed.gov/broadband/ebb/.
An introductory letter and “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQ) document will assist schools in learning about the program and includes strategies for reaching out to their school community about the EBB. The letter and FAQ can be found at the following website link: https://tech.ed.gov/files/2021/05/K12-Letter-FAQs-FCC-EBBProgram.pdf. These documents are also attached to this email.
In addition, an “Outreach Toolkit” with sample templates can be found at the following website link: https://tech.ed.gov/files/2021/05/K12-Outreach-Toolkit-FCC-EBBProgram.pdf.
