Mrs. Smith’s Snapchat…
Hello Lakeside Parents and Guardians,
This is Mrs. Smith, principal at Lakeside Elementary School.
I am so proud and feel very fortunate to serve such great people in our community each day. I hope everyone has some time to enjoy family and friends over the course of the next two weeks.
As our first semester of the school year has come to an end, I just want to thank each of you for your continued support of Lakeside! This year has been like no other! I am so incredibly proud of ALL of our students and staff for the great work they have done this first semester!
As we begin our winter break, please use these next two weeks to just take a breather and relax and enjoy! Our winter break begins now and goes through Sunday, January 3. Students will return to school beginning on Monday, January 4. As a reminder, all K-5 students will remain VIRTUAL through at least Friday, January 15th.
Learning Option Change Requests Forms for students in grades K-5th grade will be available for families on Dec. 30. Each K - 5th-grade school will have a link on their home school webpage where families can communicate their desire for next semester. If you are a traditional IN-PERSON family or a fully VIRTUAL family this is your opportunity to let us know how you would like to end the school year.
For example, if you would like your student to return to traditional IN-PERSON instruction for the remainder of the school year, you would fill out the Learning Option Change Request Form and select “traditional IN-PERSON”. If you are a traditional IN-PERSON family who would like to move to fully VIRTUAL for the remainder of the school year, you would select “fully VIRTUAL”. This form will be available from December 30 through 3:00 pm on January 8.
Our food distribution will continue to take place over winter break. Distribution sites are Moorhead Community Resource Center, Warren Central High School, Creston, Raymond Park, and Stonybrook. Multiple meals will be provided at each distribution, and our winter break meals will have a special treat included.
Distribution dates are as follows:
Friday, December 18 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Tuesday, December 22 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Tuesday, December 29 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm
As always, I thank you for your continued support of Lakeside Elementary and Warren Township! Take care, be safe, and have a great weekend!
Happy Holidays,
Sincerely,
Mrs. Smith
Second Semester Learning Option Change Requests
Learning Option Change Requests Forms for students in grades K-5th grade will be available for families on Dec. 30. Each K - 5th grade school will have a link on their home school webpage where families can communicate their desire for next semester. If you are an traditional IN-PERSON family or a fully VIRTUAL family this is your opportunity to let us know how you would like to end the school year.
Families considering remaining/moving too fully VIRTUAL for the remainder of the school year, should be aware of four factors:
Indiana schools are required by state and federal legislation to administer assessments, such as WIDA, ILEARN, IREAD, and IAM. These statewide assessments may not be given to students remotely, they must be taken in-person at school. Your student will be required to attend school on designated days to take their assessments. 2021 Assessment Window Dates.
Second semester placements for K-5th graders will begin January 19th. Students in the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) will receive a schedule from their VIRTUAL teacher(s). Choosing to move to the VLA for the remainder of the 20-21 means you are agreeing that your student will follow the schedule provided by your teacher(s) and will log into Zoom for instruction provided by teachers each day during the scheduled times.
When the Learning Option Change Request window closes, staffing changes will be made to support the high volume of requests. Due to these staffing changes, it is possible that your student may be assigned to a new Virtual teacher for the second semester.
This is the last window to request a learning option change. There will not be another opportunity to communicate a change. Students will finish the school year in this option.
Learning Option Change Request Forms for students in grades K-5th will open Dec. 30 and close Jan. 8th, 2021, at 3PM. Second semester schedules will start Jan. 19, 2021.
All students in grades 6th - 12th will remain 100% VIRTUAL until at least Friday, February 12th with a tentative IN-PERSON HYBRID return on Wednesday, February 17th. Learning Option Change Requests Forms for students in grades 6th-8th grade will open Jan. 15 and close Jan. 29, 2021, at 4PM.
Second Semester Learning Option Change Requests (Spanish Version)

CAR RIDERS/DAYCARE Student Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
We ask that our parents follow these guidelines to ensure that every student has a safe arrival and dismissal:
All students will be required to be dropped off and picked up through the car rider line to maintain safety standards. Parking at the front and East end of the building and walking children to and from the entrances will not be allowed. We want to prevent children and adults walking through the path of cars or buses on the property at any time.
Staff members will be present outside beginning at 7:55 a.m. each morning for student drop-off. Please do not release your children until a staff member signals the beginning of our process. Students will not be counted tardy until 8:05 a.m. Our afternoon pick-up procedures will begin at 3:00 p.m. If you are in a hurry, you are encouraged to be at or near the front of the line. We will implement our dismissal procedures as quickly and safely as possible for all.
Thank you very much for your support with helping ensure Lakeside maintains safety as our priority during our student entrance and dismissal each day!
DON’T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR CAR RIDER SIGN IN THE FRONT OFFICE!!

SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLICATIONS/NEWS MEDIA USE
The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
