Encouraging Mesages
The Energy Bus for Kids by Jon Gordon
When I introduced myself to teachers and staff, I shared the powerful message of promoting and maintaining positive energy. I first learned about the impact of positive energy when reading Jon Gordon's The Energy Bus.
I'm honored to see the children's version of Gordon's book in many classrooms throughout Worcester. I'm also thankful our teachers embraced the message and have taken the initiative to share it with our students!
The children's book identifies "5 Rules for the Ride of My Life." To promote the home and school connection, I'd like to highlight one rule each week. Together, our learning community can be the one to encourage, empower, and inspire . . . And maybe, Jon Gordon can help guide us!
Rule #4: LOVE YOUR PASSENGERS
The fourth rule of The Energy Bus for Kids encourages us to "LOVE YOUR PASSENGERS," which can be challenging since we are riding multiple buses simultaneously. For me, I'm riding the Worcester Bus (and the larger Methacton Bus), my Family Bus, my Neighborhood Bus . . .
The concept of "love our passengers" applies no matter how many buses you're riding. It doesn't matter if you're the passenger or a driver. The message is always the same, "LOVE YOUR PASSENGERS!"
Since we don't always get to pick our passengers, Rule #4 can be challenging so I encourage you to always "RESPECT YOUR PASSENGERS" if loving them isn't always possible.
If you're interested, please consider the following points for discussion with your child(ren):
- Be a powerful force of positive energy and share love (or at least respect) with your passengers. The more love you put out, the more that comes back to you. Be Kind. Help others. Make a difference. When you show love and kindness, you attract it right back to yourself like a magnet. Love is something that needs to be nurtured. When you love someone, you want the best for them.
- One of the ways to show you love someone is to share appreciation with them. When someone appreciates you, it makes you feel good. When you appreciate others, it makes them feel good.
BEE the One to . . .
Encourage, Empower, and Inspire
There any many lessons that can be learned from the honeybee. For me, the importance of community and working together for the greater good is the lesson that resonates most!
