Energizers (5 min)

Virtual number dice: Use three dice. Teacher can call out the following tasks:
Ask students to make the larges/smallest number to the thousandths.
Read the number aloud.
What would be a tenth more/less than that number?
What would be a hundredth more/less than that number?
What would that number be if rounded to the nearest tenth/hundredth?
Opening (5-10 min)
Would you rather Math: http://www.wouldyourathermath.com/ . This can also be played using the vocabulary words from this unit. "Would you rather pay for your items with a check or with a debit card?" Then students justify to each other their reasoning behind their statements.

Place Value Mats:

Fluency:
Game of Greater or Less
- Need: number cards and greater than/less than spinner
- Students each take a number card.
- Each student builds the number using money/base ten blocks with mats or draws the model, and writes the number in expanded form and/or expanded notation below the each model that has been built.

- Whichever student has the greater/lesser amount earns a point.
