Principal’s Message - December 2020-January 2021
Greetings AHS Seahawk Families,
In this season of gratitude, I want to express sincere appreciation to all our families who are working so hard to manage remote learning and support their children’s education. This is a huge change for everyone and we know how challenging it is to have children learning from home. Thank you for all you are doing to maintain a consistent school schedule, help with homework, and navigate social emotional learning all while juggling the many other responsibilities of family life. We are in this together and we will get through it.
As we enter the 2nd quarter of the school year, remember we have many resources to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Let us know how we can collaborate to support students. This week in Advisory, students are reviewing how to check their grades in Schoology and learning how to effectively write emails to their teachers. Teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators can assist with any related questions you may have.
Finally, Erik Titus and I are hosting a monthly virtual Coffee with the Principals. Families can join us on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:00 for an informal get together. Follow this link to access our Zoom meeting. We look forward to seeing you.
Take care of yourselves, your family, and our community~

Social Emotional Learning at AHS
This year at AHS we are continuing the Character Strong program. Our Character, like any other muscle in our body, can get stronger with intentional, consistent practice. Our goal is to help students forge meaningful relationships, build positive community, focus on social-emotional learning, and develop character.
At school, students and teachers have Character Dares. If you want to try this at home, we have Family Character Dares intended to support positive family communication, acts of kindness, recreation and rest, and expressions of love. Here is this month’s Family Dare:

4-Year Course Plan Updates
School Counselors will be holding a Zoom Webinar with 9th - 11th grade students during weekly Advisory meetings in December and January to work on revising and updating their 4-year course plans. The 4-year course plan is a component of the state mandated High School and Beyond Plan, which all students must complete towards their high school diploma/graduation requirements.
We will also be reviewing graduation and college admission requirements with students during these sessions.
Parents, please ask your student to login to Google Classroom for their grade level and show you their 4-year plan if you would like to review it together. All 9th-11th grade plans will be complete after mid-January, when we have finished meeting with all students.

SAT or ACT Testing
Most four year colleges require applicants to submit scores from either the SAT of the ACT. Four year college-bound students are encouraged to take it more than once. This will give students a chance to use the higher of the test scores. Colleges in WA State will accept either the SAT or the ACT.
For out-of-state schools, please check the Admissions page for the college(s) you are interested in attending to verify their admissions test requirements.
SAT registration and dates can be found at
http://sat.collegeboard.com/register/sat-dates
ACT registration and dates can be found at
http://www.actstudent.org/regist/dates.html
We are working to reschedule tests that were cancelled due to COVID. More information will follow once we have updated testing plans.
