NEWS & NOTES FROM ESTABROOK SCHOOL | NOVEMBER 26, 2017

Principal's Message

Dear Estabrook Community,

I hope you have had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving with family and friends!

Please join me in welcoming three new staff to Estabrook School:

  • Brittany Ball, Speech/Language Pathologist. Ms. Ball is newly hired due to our increase in student enrollment.
  • Sharon Cantone, Literacy Specialist/Interventionist. Ms. Cantone divides her time between Bridge and Estabrook Schools, and supports our increase in student enrollment.
  • Eema Khondker, Kindergarten Assistant in Ms. Chartrand's Kindergarten. Ms. Khondker is filling the vacancy from Ms. Brennan's retirement (starting November 29).

Estabrook is brimming with exciting happenings. We look forward to seeing you in the coming month as we celebrate our family heritage, the book fair, and fun math ideas we can try at home. We look forward to seeing you at Estabrook School!

Warmly,

Principal Trach

Principal Coffee: Math Talk! Friday, December 1, 8:50-9:30 am

Mathematical discourse is at the heart of the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Join us as we discuss how teachers promote "math talk" at school, how parents can do the same at home, and why it's important for children. We'll try out a variety of routines and explore some fantastic new resources. There will even be a raffle for the new book, Table Talk Math: A Practical Guide for Bringing Math into Everyday Conversations, by John Stevens.

Young children welcome. Coffee served. Held in the Literacy Center at Estabrook School. Hope to see you there!

Poetry Residency sponsored by Lexington Education Foundation

Estabrook School is excited to announce an upcoming poetry residency for all K-5 students, staff, and families entitled The Estabrook School Culture and Diversity Project. Regie O’Hare Gibson will serve as the artist-in-residence for the project.

The purpose of this year’s School Community Grant for Estabrook School is to celebrate our culture and diversity through a schoolwide artistic experience, whereby the faculty and staff, as well as each K-5 class will compose a unique poem about ourselves.

The staff and class poems will ultimately be merged into one schoolwide poem and accompanied by a music at a live community performance in Spring 2018. We look forward to sharing more about our poems in the coming months!

Estabrook School would like to extend our special thanks to Regie O'Hare Gibson for partnering with us and Lexington Education Foundation for their generous support!

Remembering Bill Terris

Estabrook School would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Terris family. Their beloved father and grandfather - William (Bill) C. Terris, 82 - passed away on November 18, 2017. Mr. Terris was a beloved, retired principal of Estabrook Elementary School. He was admired as a devoted educator and leader with an over thirty year career.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, November 26 from 2:00-5:00 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral will be held on Monday, November 27 at 9:00 am from the Dee Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
