January NEWS
Mark Your Calendar: No School in session on Monday, January 23rd, and Monday, February 6th.
We hope you all had a chance to rest up on the back to back snow days. We did! According to the District Calendar, the 2nd snow day will be made up. School WILL BE IN SESSION on Monday, June 5th, 2017. See you then!
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
We had our 1st AND 2nd snow day of the year! I hope everyone was able to get back in bed and fall back to sleep and then later get outside to play in that fun SNOW! Remember we are part of the Oconto Falls School District so you need to listen for our district name, not our school. I enjoyed the quiet time working in my office all day long!
As we continue our school year, I'd like to remind everyone that school and home is a partnership working closely together to help all children grow both socially and academically. Here at school we work hard to challenge each student individually and meet each one's needs. Talk with your son/daughter's teacher with questions, concerns, and compliments. Yes, teachers like to hear compliments too!
I met with our staff this week to discuss a new policy that the office is putting into place that affects my immediate availability. My job as a principal has many roles but my primary role is to see learning in action and help that learning grow. In order to do that, I need to be in the classrooms A LOT --which is where I LOVE to be. In order to do that I have to ask our school community to allow me to be a little less accessible immediately so that I can be much more powerfully accessible to the staff and students where it matters in the classroom. This means that I am asking that anyone that needs to speak to me contact Mrs. Bauer or Mrs. Radke. They will be happy to set up a time that we can talk as soon as possible. I really appreciate everyone's willingness to make this adjustment so that I can be much more powerfully accessible to the staff and students where it matters in the classroom.
Please be sure to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. Have a wonderful beginning of 2017!
Mrs. Michalski

Notes from the Office
Skyward/Family Access-Login and Password: Skyward is the program our district uses to keep track of student information. Every family has a login and password which will allow them to gain access to their students' general information, attendance, grades, food service information and much more. You may access this website through the district's homepage at www.ocontofalls.k12.wi.us. Click on Family/Student Access, enter your login id and password. If you do not have a login and password please call the school office at 920-826-5819, ext. 0.
Skylert: The Oconto Falls School District uses the Skylert program. Skylert allows the schools to provide communication via telephone/cell phone, email, and/or text message. If the Oconto Falls Schools would have a cancellation or early dismissal you would be contacted through Skylert. Therefore, please make sure your phone numbers and email addresses are up to date in Skyward/Family Access.

Nurses KNOWledge
Nurses notes regarding lice:
Anyone can get head lice, although they are most common among children aged 4-11 who spend more time in close contact with friends and family.
The most common symptom is itching. Parents should be checking their children and family members hair regularly, ideally at least once a week. A good way to remember this is once a week take a peek. Checking for head lice shouldn’t be considered a big deal, it should just be considered a normal part of a family's personal hygiene routine like brushing your teeth and bathing.
Where to check for head lice:
Close to the scalp
Behind the ears
Back of the neck
What are you looking for:
Adult lice are 2-4 mm long
Immature lice are even smaller
Live lice stay close to the scalp
Nits (eggs) of unhatched lice attached to the hair shaft, close to the scalp
What to do once you find them:
Visit your pharmacy and ask your local pharmacist for guidance on the various treatments available
Treatment should be done as soon as possible, following the written instructions included with the product
Contact your family’s health care provider for treatment options if you need assistance
Contact your school nurse for any questions or concerns
Contact your family and friends who may have been exposed
Please let your child’s teacher or school office know for awareness and assistance
Follow-up care for head lice:
Check that all head lice have gone every day until it has been two weeks post the final application to complete the treatment.
Most treatment instructions indicate that a second application is required, repeat the treatment seven days after the first application to kill any lice which may have hatched since the first treatment was applied.
Remember to continue to Check your family members hair regularly, at least once a week!
