2017-18 Teacher of the Year: Ms. O'Neal

Congratulations to Penny Road Elementary School's 2017-18 Teacher of the Year: Ms. DeJuana O'Neal! This year is DeJuana O'Neal's twelfth year teaching. She received her Bachelor's in Elementary Education and Masters of Reading Education, K-12 from Fayetteville State University. Miss O'Neal has been a second grade teacher at our school for four years. This year, she co-teaches math alongside all of the second grade homeroom teachers, and her primary goal is to do all she can to ensure the students enter third grade with a strong mathematical foundation and a love for the content area. Every day in Miss O'Neal's room is filled with collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and student ownership as they are exposed to the standards and use data to make decisions that promote growth and mastery of those standards. Help us in congratulating Ms. O'Neal the next time you see her at Penny Road!

Mix It Up Day

This year Mix it Up at Lunch will be on Wednesday, November 15 for all 1st-5th graders!!

For anyone new to PRE, this is a day we stand up to social bullying by having students sit with someone they do not know and have a "get to know you" conversation. Miss. Sarah, the school counselor, will be there for all lunch periods.

All students (K-5) and Staff should wear BLUE on this day, as a show of solidarity towards standing up to bullying and being a kind person.

WCPSS Announcements!

We wanted to take a moment to remind you of some slight calendar changes for the current school year that the WCPSS Board of Education made last spring. These changes were announced and the calendars were amended at the time, but we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of the following:

  • Tuesday, November 21, is now an early-release day. This allows professional development time for our teachers. Students will be released 2.5 hours early on that day.
  • Friday, May 25, 2018 – previously an early-release day – will now be a full day of school.

Please make a note of these changes on your calendar.
