Dream Big...
As I was walking the halls taking care of something today I was thought about this quote. My thoughts led me to the day before my first day as a teacher, my first day at Audubon, and my first day as the principal at Audubon. In each of those instances, I can tell you where I was standing and what I was thinking at that moment. My thoughts were the same, "I am in waaaay over my head." In fact in each of those situations, I seriously considered quitting. But for some reason I didn't. I didn't let the big scary goal of being the Best Teacher, Staff Developer, or Principal keep me from ever starting. I have a list a mile long of "things" I never tried because I was scared. It wasn't until this afternoon that I realized why I don't quit in some situations and I do in others.
Excitement and passion drive us all. In fact, passion and autonomy are two of the greatest motivators. It was excitement of what could be and a passion for kids that kept me going even though I was scared.
All of us experience that level of fear when it comes to important goals, but we must persevere. We have to push through. I am fortunate enough to see the excitement and passion you all have for our kids. We put in long arduous hours and sacrifice so much for the students we serve. That passion and excitement is what fuels the best staff that I have ever had the priviledge to work alongside. I hope that each you find the strength and excitement to push through any fears that are holding you back. I also hope that you are able to fuel the passion and excitement for our students.
